In cabin micron air filter available

I was just at Nissan and found out you can get the kit for the micron air filter for your climate control system. The filter is 50 bucks and comes with the cutout template to retrofit your system. You need to remove the glove box and cut a hole in the system for this filter. Looks pretty simple. The dealer wanted 128.00 if I had them install it.

Not a bad deal if you ask me.

I think it's a spring project which will include cleaning the system before I install it. That way all the pollen will stay out of my car next year!

Pollen and black leather just dont' mix!

It's not washable, needs to be changed every 6 months or 15K - whichever comes first.

SWEET.... thanks for the info njmax... definitely gonna be making a trip to the dealer... wonder if once you cut 'the hole' you have to keep replacing the filter? sounds like a good investment to me.... yeah, the black leather in the summer is crazy to take care of...

Cleans the air, keeps all road dust and pollen from trees out of your car and the climate control system. It filters down to 2 microns.

Now thats clean air!

NOTE: You should get a kit to clean out your A/C system prior to installing this filter. A clean climate control system will work more efficently and it will stay clean after the filter is installed.
Kits are available at your local auto parts stores. (Even K-Mart) There are a few good web sites I have come across that have these products and give you a good idea of how they work and how to do it yourself. Do a search on Automotive Heating and Air Conditioning systems. Look for web sites that talk about cleaning and maintenance.

nice......

there is lots of pollen to filter out here in austin. i might have to get one of these. but if i get one for my car, then i will have to get one for my mom's car, and then another one for my grandparent's car. and if my other set of grandparents are interested, i will probably end up getting one for their car. ugh....

and yes, we all live in austin and drive maximas.... Mine is a black 97 SE, my moms and grandparent's have a white 97 GLE (identical), and my other grandparents have a blue 95' GLE.

oh, and my sister in dallas has an 88' maxima, and had an 82 before that....

From what I've heard, Infiniti charges this much to REPLACE the one already present in newer model I30s. I dont believe the 2002 Max has the filter yet. My dealer always told me they would never cut or alter anything on a car that still under warranty...

I have seen the filters...they're quite small and nice...

4th gens need a hole cut but the space to insert it and hold it in place is molded into the system.

5th gens. 2000 plus, have a trap door that just gets removed. So install is easier with 5th gens. This is what Ramsey Nissan told me. A quick look last night and I can clearly see where the filter would go.

how easy is the install on these things?

So this thing is 128$ and after 15k miles or 6 months I have to get a new one and pay 128$ again? although it's a good thing to have around, that's a pricey investment for someone that drives a lot

Anyone done it and have a Part# they would care to share?

NJ, you are the man! That is just way too cool. I'm there! Would you guys beleive me if I told you my dad bought a Taurus because it has the micro filter? Now I can tell him I have one too!

So it is an initial $50 for the filter and kit? What's the ongoing? Is it still $50 or can you get just the filter for less?

Thanks again.

Has there been any more progress on this? It's been a few months. njmax, you never answered my questions.

I e-mailed courtesy and nothing. I called my dealer and nothing. I did get a price and part number for the 5th gens (from my dealer). $48.95, #B72003Y000 but I don't know for sure if this is the correct part for us. Is it?

Anybody else have any luck finding part numbers? Anyone install one?

Thanks guys.

the filter has been out for a couple of years...
most dealers have signs up about them. my guys at the shop said it helps clean the air in the cabin but i wouldn't notice a change in the air or dust build-up.
depending on where you are price runs between 39-55.00 for the filter....

Don't confuse this with the 5th gens built in pollen filter for the HVAC system. The 4th gen doesn't come with one. What njmax was talking about is a retrofit kit, something that is unlikely to be advertised by dealers (that pollen filter you see advertised is for newer nissans). I have yet to find to retrofit pollen filter kit for my 4th gen. My guess is that njmax's dealer had a custom kit.

My local Nissan dealer, which is outstanding and always very helpful is checking into this for the 4 gen Maximas. He said that the computers and the brochures they have for this retrofit kit only show that it applies to 2000-2001 Maximas. BUT, the parts guy is going to contact Nissan directly to find out if it would fit in the 1997-99 models for us. If so, he'll get me a part number and cost for filters/to install, etc. I'll keep you posted.

i stopped by the dealership and my guy there wasn't in so i kinda got the run around from the normal service guy. as stated above the 2000 maxima has an option for this. they didn't have anything listed for a 95-99 maxima. when i pushed the issue they said it could be done but they didn't know how long it would take. the normal price of the filter is about 50.00. we could probably pick one up for around 35.00. they said they couldn't promise a price on doing it because it has never been done at this dealership.
i'll find out more info on it next time i swing by.

Okay - Here it is: There is no in-cabin air filter kit for Maximas built before 2000 MY. Sorry guys! I was hoping to get one for my 98.

The retrofit kits are for the 2000-2001 models and the 2002s come with the system installed.

If you look on page one, njmaxseltd clearly states that his dealership says they make/sell one for the 4th gen. He said the 5th gen is a drop-in while the 4th gen needs a hole cut. His dealership even gave him a price! But any homework I have done and what a few of you guys have done points to no. So which is it? Can njmaxseltd respond? I'd really like this filter, if possible. Thanks guys.

Still waiting for njmaxseltd to post more useful information. However, it sounds like we need to cut a hole in order to "insert??" the filter into the system.

I will take whatever it takes to put in one. Dang pollen and allergies!!
