Bell Housing Code

Hey guys, I was stumped by a question from the shop that's rebuilding the '01 tranny for me. They said they needed some code from 10-11 o'clock postion inside of the bell housing. They also said that it begins either with an F or a Y and is about 3 letters long followed by a number.

Apparently they need this code in order to get the right parts(synchros, etc..) for the tranny. I was completely stumped as I had figured that all '01 AE MT trannys were the same.

P.S.: I know that this post technically belongs in the 5th gen page but no one there seems to know/give a sh*^ so here I am.

Any guesses?

Where's the bell housing? Have you looked at it to see if there's a code stamped on it?

If they're rebuilding the trans, you'd think they have the bellhousing there with them...

The guys rebuilding the transmission need to know which kind to rebuild. Apparently there are 2 different codes that specify 2 different mount types for the transmission and they need to know which one will work for me.

But if the code they need is on the bellhousing, and the bellhousing is there with them...what's the problem?

There are 2 types of mounts for the '01 AE MT, these 2 types are designated in the bell housing. They(the shop) don't have either of them, they are finding a core and then matching the appropriate parts depending on what the core says or in my case whichever type fits the 96 mounts. So they are asking me, "which code is in your bell housing, A or B?" And they will build it accordingly.

I hope that clarifies the situation.

Isn't the tranny code tag on the fire wall pass. side of the engine compartment?
That should have the code.

Well for an AE it's an RS5F05V. His mention of 'A' or 'B' makes me think of the RE4F04?, that had a 'B' version for the 5.5 gen.

What do you mean by 'mounts'? Do you mean the trans mount? That pattern should be the same for all VQ 5 speeds...

I guess I'm confused here ....

Sorry to be jumping in late on this, but I'll post anyway.

Pmohr is right, the bolt pattern is the same for all VQ 5spds and if they are sourcing a trans for you and rebuilding it, shouldn't they have the part code? Do you have an 01' trans they are rebuilding for you? If that's the case, they have the trans and ID number. If they are looking for a trans for you, they need to get the part number off the one they get.

I don't think there are different rebuild kits for our transaxles. Other than with or without syncroz that is.

Don't the 01's have the VIN on the bellhousing like the 4th gen's do?
