What do i need for a BBK?

Like, what exactly do i need to buy and how do i install it?... I see alot of users using the 300zx BBK, and I'd like better stopping power in the good ol' max

You can start off by buying my kit (calipers, drilled and slotted rotors & brake pads) Then you can buy the SS conversion brake line from member (automax_95).

calipers, zx rotors, pads, and 300zx brake lines. thats it. but a lot of people use the Ford cobra Rotors, wich is bigger, and for that, you need to re drill the rotor, and a ring.

if u want, i got 30mm iron calipers i can sell

One thing you'll need: a lot of power. To my knowledge, BBKs usually don't make a big difference unless that difference is really needed. In fact, I hear the extra unnecessary rotating mass tends to weigh you down moreso than makes the extra braking power advantageous. Not to mention the extra weight and cost of the bigger rims you'll need. You may take a good hard look at your car's abilities and realize the best thing for you are just a set of stock-size high performance pads/rotors.

And maybe it's just me, but stock size suits me perfectly well, unless I decide to take up autocross.

well thats not all true, but he has a point.....my friend had a S14 and after doing the swap, yeah, there was no way to overheat the brakes, and belive me, we tried....but the pedal feel was much worse and they dont feel as good as stock. with stock, you got more pedal feel....the only reason we did it, is cause we got 3 sets laying around the shop

Hey guys, first time poster here. I have no idea how to make the Z32 brake upgrade work on the Maxima/I30, but a buddy of mine is going to do it to his I30 and I plan on helping.

To get to the point, what you are saying is half true. Good luck getting the Z32 brakes to fade. I have the full set on my S13 and it stops like a dream. Never once had brake fade even with OEM pads. The half where you are wrong is the pedal feel. The reason your pedal is mushy now is because I am guessing you are running just the front Z32 brakes and the OEM BMC. The OEM BMC is only proportioned to run the OEM calipers. When you add more pistons it needs to move more fluid and the OEM BMC won't cut it. I installed the 1 1/16" BMC on my S13 and the pedal feel is rock hard. I would be willing to bet that that BMC will work on the Maxima/I30 as well. If you are not upgrading the rear calipers you should look into the Z31 Turbo BMC as it is proportioned right from the factory to run the 4 piston front, 1 piston rear brake setup. This is the setup the kouki S14's have in Europe and they are running the same BMC the later Z31 turbos had. I hope that helped.

Dave

Going to introduce myself now!

hey...welcome

this is wat happend

day1: put on the calipers in front and rear, so a full 300zx calipers, but still using 240sx BMC. It barely brakes....you can brake as much as you want, and it felt like it was braking only 30% couldnt lock up the brakes even at 15mph. bled the brakes at least 4 times
day2: put a 300zx BMC, and still exactly the same thing.....for the rest of the day, we were inventing how to hook up the 300zx drums to the 240zx hand brake
day3: someone suggseted to put a zx brake booster.....barely fit, but we got it in. after that, it was all good

but weirdly, on the 240, he had 275s in the back and 235s in the front and the rear locked up pretty easy.

For more stopping power you should go to a higher friction brake pad.

Larger brakes are really only useful if you go to road courses and get your brakes so hot they lose stopping power.

Gotcha. On my S13 I am still running the OEM booster and mine works fine. That's weird. Well, you got it working though so that's all that matters! Also, for the drum brake, the R33 cables bolt right up and are the correct length. Try those.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe SE rims won't clear the caliper.

lol well the brakes come from a Z32, dont they lol.....its weird cause we used stock SE 240sx rims and they cleared the brakes. they rims were 16"

i know they wont clear if you got the 13" cobra rotors

Not only does the actual diameter of the wheel matter, but the offset and spoke design matter as well. I am running a 17x8" +35 offset 5Zigen FN01R-C on my S13 and if the spokes were a little fatter, they would not clear. However the stock Z32 wheel is 16x8 and a +40 offset if I am not mistaken, but they seem to clear just fine.

My spoke only has a few mm of clearance if that.
