Underheating Problems

Hey guys. I don't Know if this is normal or not. But my 95 max 5 spd se, when warmed up will just be a little bit above the cold line. Is this normal? Can anyone tell me why it is like that? And one more thing. How in the world do i get rid of that sloppy rear suspension. Everytime i go over a bump in a corner it feels as though the rear end is going to go.
Thanks

Don't know about the heating, but get a RSB (rear sway bar) to help with the rear end problem.

Do you mean after you've driven it for a while, the engine is still not warmed up to approx the halfway mark on the temp guage? It will take a few blocks or maybe a mile before the guage begins to move, but after driving for approx 10-15 minutes, the guage should show approx halfway.

but if i stop and have engine running the temp guage will move up.
the guage is not stuck
after i got home from my 2 hour stint
the hood and engine were still cold.
what could it be please help..

yeah tomorrow its going back to the dealer i bought it from to get it checked out...
also there is a hiss coming from the driver side rear.
it only happens when the engine is on.
it has to deal with the exhaust but not sure what.
its the oem one.
could it be a hole? could the cat/precat pieces be falling out? could the gasket be shot?
any suggestions...
and also. the power steering feels too light is there anyway to make it less touchy?
sorry for being such a pain in the Ahem
but i would greatly aprecciate the help.
and i already appreciate the help i am currently getting you guys truely are a great bunch.

just from my experience, normally when a thermostat fails, they stick closed, which cause over heating. Running an engine too cold can be just as bad as too warm, so good idea on getting it looked at. More than likely its a malfunction sensor or gauge, best o luck

I had the same probelm with my 94 and now with my 95. I am thinking about air in the cooling system or bad thermostat. The only thing I need to know is how to bleed the air out of the system

Almost all auto manufacturers for the last 10 years have been installing fail-safe (fail open) thermostats but I'm not sure what Nissan uses.

The cheap replacements are going to be fail-closed unless specifically noted otherwise. Definately get a fail-open one.

You will get lousy gas mileage until you change it; the computer will continue to think that you just started the engine and will pump extra fuel into the cylinders because of the cold temp reading.

If you don't want to wait until Monday to have the dealer fix it, attached is a jpg of the '99 FSM page on replacing and testing the thermostat. It looks pretty easy to do.
