Climate control?

Awhile back I noticed the climate control doesnt work right at all. Like it doesnt work at 1, 2, 3, but it only works at 4. I figured it may have shorted somewhere on in the climate control fan control, hopefully that is the problem. How do I check, I dont want to simply ruin it, bend something, or even accidentally pull a wire, and cant fix it.

Does anybody have a sulotion, buy that one part, or fix it myself. I would rather try to fix it myself, but I dont know how to pull the thing out. I managed to pull my burnt clock out. I would really hate to buy a hole new climate control thing, because mine is in such good condition, and to have another one that may have acratches on it is not happening in my car.

Any suggestions??

You might want to start with the fan control relay located by the blower box under the dash on the passenger side.

Yup. 99% sure you'll find you have a bad relay.

Nevermind, I'm ordering one now. Just a question, shouldnt the blower not work at all, if its a bad relay?

no ,because what the "relay" or resistor does is directs different amounts of voltage (less for slower and more for higher fan speeds) . It only works on 4 because at that speed it uses full system voltage, it sorta bypasses the resistor (relay).

Sorry for the noob question, but I see "Blower motor relay" and a "Blower relay", which one do I need. I tried to figure it out, but they seem like the same thing.

No, one is cheaper than the other. They sound like the same thing, but I need to know if indeed they really are the same thing, they plug into the same spot, they look the same.

Not under the hood... under the dash. Below/behind the glovebox.

I'll get a mechanic to look at it, because to me, thats alot of money just to spend on how the air conditioner(or in my case, heater, because I havent got a condencer in my car, yet). I'm going to the shop tomarrow to get a vaccum leak check.

Edit: If I do so happen to look at it myself, is there away to tell if its bad or not? What would it look like?

sometimes you can look at it once its out and see it burnt and/or smell it,but its about 99.9% that its the resitor thats bad.its really common in most cars, not just maximas.
also the difference in the two different parts is one is for AUTO climate control and the other is for manual climate control. sorry I dont have time to read all the way to see if you have mentioned what it is.
also ...do it your self ! save some money.its easy and takes like 5 mins.
but if not ,your mechanic really shouldnt cahrge very much at all...if anything.
hope that helps

The replacement part costs about US$25.

The blower motor is located just above the passenger's feet. Look at the wires leading away from the blower motor. Just inches away from the blower motor there is an electrical connector located on the air duct. That's the resistor assembly. It is easy to remove and replace.

Replacement is the usual remedy. However, if a spot of localized damage is seen it may be repaired with a soldering gun.

There is a good photo of the blower motor and resistor assembly in the Haynes repair manual, page 3-8. If you don't already have a copy of this book, please get one. It will be money well spent.

a) Move the front pass seat all the way back (for convenience)
b) Remove a harness connector (with 4 wires I think) running into the bottom of the blower motor.
c) Remove the 2 philips screws that hold the blower motor resistor in place.
d) Put new one in, reverse install.

Blower Motor Resistor Part Number: 27150-1E405

You can get it here:

http://www.nissanparts.cc/cart/?pn=27150-1E405

Should be $28 at your local dealer. It's $28 delivered from discount Nissan parts sites.

Edit: If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can try to fix it yourself. See this thread.

stickies ftw

mine from the dealership in town was $22-23 i think. if you go to the dealership and tell them you need the blower resister they will know what you are talking about. this is a pretty common problem with nissans and infinitis. they tried to sell me a new blower too but you dont need it fyi

Sorry for the double post, but I need to know this now. I'm fixing to replace it tonight, and I cannot find out how to find the part I need to replce, and replace it. I looked on the net, and in my Maxima book.

It's under the glove compartment. You don't have to remove anything to get at it - just take out the two phillips screws and unplug the one electrical connector.

Other than the resistor being in a tight spot (I think I laid backwards and upside down on the passenger side seat to get my head under the dash to see what I was doing), it's one of the easiest things to change on our Maximas. As someone here already said, 5 minutes tops, once you find where it is.

I dont know what FSM it is, like theres so many different letters, I dont understand them all, the only one I understand is fwd.

Edit, Thanks nafddur, I know its under the glove box, but like right or left. I'll figure it out, its very dark out, its really foggy, I have to look up-side down to find it (I dont know where to look for it), and to top it all off, my next door neighbor keeps there stupid *** barking dogs outside, all the time. Bark Bark Bark....

Very good info, I had the same problem and was considering taking it to a shop where I'm sure they would charge $90 just for a diagnostic and another $200 for the part and install.
