Help! Possible Big Problem, Not Sure!

Ok, today I was driving and all of a suden my blinker lights both come on without making the blinking sound and stay on. They are not blinking but just on, and when I turn the car off they stay on. What could this be, or mean? My airbag is currently flashing but I don't think it's related. I tried resetting the airbag but it didn't work I'm gonna go to the dealer for that one. But the lights have me worried. Any solutions?

I read a post someplace on here regarding that exact problem. You blinker stack switch is shorting out. The contacts inside are worn down and are now shorted. You can take it apart and attempt to clean and repair it or just go buy a new blinker stack switch. I think it's the whole assy. including the handle.

Any idea where I can get info on that, or where I can get the parts at a good price?

Order your parts from Courtesy Nissan at http://www.courtesyparts.com. If you mention the .org, they will give you an additional discount. There prices are the close to cost and they support the forum! The part is easy to replace and involves removing the plastic covering around the steering wheel. This is held together with screws under the steering column.

My airbag light has been flashing since May. I have come to ignore it. When I went to Nissan they told me that many Maxima's they see have the ab light. The guy said they will deploy in in accident though....

Still get them checked. I have a damaged sensor.

Hmm, I happened to find this in the 'stickys' in the top of the forum. Wonder if they apply here.

My air bag warning light is flashing. How can I reset it?
Information courtesy of Daniel B. Martin

This is the procedure for resetting the dashboard Air Bag warning light. This information came from the '99 Maxima factory service manual. It's easy enough to try.

Open the driver's door. Note the rubber covered button, a button which is pressed by the door when the door is closed. This is the Driver's Door Switch (DDS).

Turn the ignition from OFF to ON. Press the DDS at least 5 times within 7 seconds after turning the ignition switch ON. Turn the ignition OFF.

Close the driver's door. Start the engine.

Possible causes for this warning light to go on include:

- a fault with the Air Bag
- abnormally low voltage in the electrical system due to a weak battery
- a maladjusted door striker plate such that the door does not close properly, where the DDS is jiggled on and off constantly as you drive.

If the dashboard warning light remains on after you perform this reset procedure you may have to let the dealer handle the problem.
