Axle Replacement

Is there a certain brand axle I need to use in order to replace both of my axles? Also probably the idiot question of the month but how do I know if my car is LSD? 1 more thing arent all 4th gen maxima's ABS cars? The auto parts store asked me if mine was. I am assuming it is but who knows...

LSD came only on I30 or Canadian Maximas.

and abs, look under your hood, and look for a ABS module. or u can go on gravel and stop on ur brakes. if they lock up and stay locked...no abs. if ur pedal jumps when u brake hard. then there is ABS.

its actually pretty rare on our cars though

Sweet thanks man. I will try to see if I can find an ABS module. That is crazy that we dont have that on our cars. Oh well. Thanks again...

All the Max's I've owned/own, driven and seen in person have not had ABS. So don't just assume you do!

Also, search around and you'd find that a lot of people, including myself, have had very good luck and GREAT customer service from Marty at Raxles.com But, it's whatever you feel most comfortable with really and where you want to put your cash.

No specific type of axles required. Raxles are nice, but they're costly. Any generic auto parts store axle will work just fine for your application.

Simple way to determine ABS is either look for the ABS light when you start the car up, or as said look for the actuator underhood:

For some more anecdotal advice, almost every 4th gen I've either worked on or driven has had ABS, so

A VLSD trans didn't come OEM on the car, and it's extremely unlikely that it's been swapped. Here's how you'll know for sure once you get the driver's side axle off of the car:

Also FWIW you can get an ABS axle either way, it'll work for both ABS and non-ABS cars. They're usually the same price for either axle.

Yay, 7000...heh.

heh hell no, that's a USIM spray painted black. Wish it was an 00vi. Same with both of my valve covers. Got bored one day, took everything apart and painted it.

On an automatic (non-lsd) you have to remove the right axle first and pound the driver side out through the hole correct?

Shouldn't matter which axle you remove first, I do the DS first, but only because it's easy - no carrier bearing! lol

They just popped right out. Getting them back in took a little work wiggling, twisting and pushing.
Also on an auto, no tranny fluid comes out when you pull the axles. At least not when i did mine. I did drain it after I pulled the driver side axle out. I used o'reilly's dexron / atf 3 to replace the automatic transmission fluid in mine. It was still pink when it was drained/flushed, but I didn't reuse it just in case.
Thanks for the help and suggestions fellahs.

no ABS and no LSD

no ABS here.

+1 on Raxles. strong and beefy. Those are on my to-do list as my axles are clicking. if you dont need really really nice axles, then autozone or anyother reman'd axle will do just fine.

Book Time

What would be the book time if a repair shop removed and replaced Axels with parts I supply?
I think this is something I would rather have a shop do.

Independant shops around here (San Diego) charge $90 per axle.

My 95SE (owned since day 1) is a Canadian model with 5-speed, LSD and ABS. I ordered it from the factory and can't remember if ABS was an option. I believe it was.

There were 3 option packages available and I took them all, except no autotragic which would have been Cdn$1,200 plus tax more.
