I was thinking of painting either or both black, a little wetsanding and then getting a few cans of flat black paint and doing it to it. Would it look good left flat black or getting the glossy paint? My color is Sterling Mist. Any ideas or tips for those who have done it already? Thanks.........

what color is your max? I seen a couple cars around orlando with the hood and roof of the car painted.. I seen a couple of cars with the carbon fiber hood, roof painted black, and trunk also black... it looks good on some cars... Good luck with it.

Now as far as tips. tape off where you dont want over spray, wet sand with 1000 grit wet sandpaper clean it off really good and paint away...

i have not seen a 4th gen but I got ideas, because im wanting to do it to. leave the windshield following the vertical lines--follow the lines of the door--connect to the vertical part of the rear window(so that is look like there is no curve to the top of the rear window)
I would go gloss black

thats how i pictured it too.Gloss black, matt finish would look too half-assed/ricer-boyish. expecially on a white car it would look tough. my cousin had his that way on his g35 like 2-3 years ago and it was fire!

post some photos of your car in the photoshop/artwork section and ask for some photoshop work.

if your going to do it the hood should be carbon fiber. this whole black roof thing started either mimicking carbon fiber roofs or to match carbon fiber hood/trunks. i'm not quite sure which came first. the point is; without the carbon fiber you're just recreating the look without doing the mods. i personally feel that mismatching panels is one of the worst trends out there (right up there with black headlights) but if you gotta do it, at least do it well.

definitely not matte black. it will look like a replacement part with black e-coat.

I also don't think that sterling mist would look good paired w/ a matte/flat finish. However, if you are still considering going with a two-tone color scheme, sterling mist would look pretty sweet paired with a nice gloss black color IMO (maybe even with a hint of green metallic in the black).

Totally agree. Im seeing A LOT of cars locally painting the trunks and hoods black. Looks gay in my eyes, cheap way of trying to do the CF theme. Everytime I see it it looks as if the hood was either a donor or has yet to be painted leaving the car unfinished looking.
Takes a bit more then having a black hood and trunk to pull of the two tone theme.

if you do it, you definitely need the hood.

Hm I think it looks kinda riced out and out of place if you ask me. Don't do it. Get some real CF if thats the theme you want.

Thanks for all the input, CF is the way to go. When i get it all ordered or get my stuff together i'll post before and after pics.....

I dont think a flat black would look good on a max. Its more for a 240 or a civic color.

do not spray paint it with a can!!!!

I had a 1991 Camry... painted the hood flat black, was very nice as it cut down on the glare then it was sunny out. The maxima hood has a good curve to it so I haven't seen any glare so far. I've been thinking about painting a few of the rust spots. Whats the best way to paint/blend the rusty areas with no rusty areas?

I was thinking about doing this too....but our cars have that gap between the backseat window and the rear windshield (on every sedan). This kinda throws the line off. Hence, two-tone cars are typically coupes...the lines just flow better. but best of luck and post pics!!!
