Gauging Interest in LED Interior

Hello,

I have been working with LED's for a couple years now and I have just about completed my LED interior for my maxima. I really enjoy making LED boards that give the LED look into the map, dome, and courtesy lights. So what I am offering to the maxima.org community is LED boards for the above lighting locations. I will have pictures up of my work that I have done for my car I will do equal if not better work than what I have done previously. As everything with working on my car it is a learning experience as I go and my skills improve with the more soldering I complete. So here are the numbers of LED's I have on my boards in my car...

Map light: 15 LED's
Dome Light: 20 LED's
Courtesy Lights: 6 LED's

At the moment I am using a 4.7k ohm resistor as previously I was experiencing a lot of blown LED's with a 470 ohm resistor. I am still experimenting though and I will find the best option for a resistor prior to sending any out. I am using white 3mm 15000 mcd LED's but I am willing to use any LED anybody would like but it will be a longer process as I have to get the special LED's requested. Also I am willing to use more LED's than said above but it will cost a little extra money.

Please just let me know if there is any interest in any of these lighting options.

I have yet to completely work it out but my estimate is to sell a complete set for around $30-45. So that is 4 boards with 47 LED's and 4 resistors.

Thank you,

Stephen

How about just the front map light and dome? I don't want to mess with my step/door lights I've had too many problems. And what do you think about doing a different color other than white? Like if I wanted purple could you do that?

And excuse my ignorance, probably a dumb question, but how would we hook them up to use them once you send them?

I'm totally interested in this, and don't feel stupid because I don't know either.
I'd like to see some pictures too.

Unless he's gonna put a lot of money into it , I'd guess you just tap into the existing wiring with t-taps.

i forget how many but i think my dome is a 25 array or 30 and its tooooo damn bright. never even use it anymore, just turned the switch to off. map is like 9 and doors are 3.

and good idea on the resistor. i experienced many blown LEDs b/c i been using the provided resistors (470ohms). how is the light output w/ the 4.7k? actually, that shouldn't even matter should it?

Yes I can do just map and dome lights, prices will be lower as you will not be needing the door lights. Like I said above I dont mind doing another color than white it will just take a lil longer time as I wont have the leds in my hands when the order comes in. If they make a purple then I can definitely do a purple for you.

To be completely honest the best way to hook them up is by soldering the wires together. I will also have another option of people sending me their dome, map and door lights and me soldering them in for you it will cost a little extra money but it will be done right.

To be honest with you t-taps would not really give you enough room to properly install them in the locations listed. For example the dome light is very space limited meaning that after the lighting fixture itself there is barely any room above since it is the roof and there is no play in that...

Yea I started out with my led interior using the provided 470 ohm resistors but they kept on blowing on me. But then I jumped up to the 4.7k ohm resistors and they are way too dim for me. So I went to radioshack today and I got some 1k resistors and they are perfect for me not too bright and not too dim just right.

hey don't worry about it I was there at one point and then I kept learning from the org and especially my dad which helped me get to where I am now. And I'm confident enough to make led boards for the maxima.org community so don't sweat it. You should take everything as a learning experience the more you read and try the more you learn, mistakes will be made on the way.....

Well...if you are gonna sell these as a "LED interior in a box" type of thing, you may want to look into soldering in a plastic harness or something that fits into the bulb holder. Actually, I think some vendors have this option already. It would make it more of a "plug and play" type of thing that would be easier for novices to install. If they have to solder it in...they might as well just do the whole thing themselves.

I understand what you are saying and I agree it will be more difficult for novices to install. But to be honest I dont see me being able to solder on a harness that will fit into the bulb holder as that will up the cost quite a bit and I will not be able to do that very easily meaning fabricating up a harness to make it work. If however there is a pre-made harness that I just wire in and it hooks up right into the bulb holder then that will be possible if not I dont see that idea working...

alright on second though...after my dad and myself put quite a lot of thought into how to make it plug and play we have figured it out. The LED boards will now come plug and play...pretty much. I say pretty much because the boards will need to be either screwed (map light) in place or glued in place (dome light) but the doors dont need either they are such a nice fit they stay in place perfectly.

I will post up a for sale thread in the 4th gen section tomorrow to start getting these boards out there.

Thanks
Stephen

Any questions about anything keep firing them at me, i am glad to answer them.

Here are the only two light output pictures that worked. I took over 20 and only two came out decent.

So here is the door lights:

Here are the map and dome lights:

Anyway, that's OT for this thread.
