Remote Entry Questions

So, my girlfriend decided to buy me an early xmas present. She found a 4th gen keyless entry remote on Ebay and decided to bid on it. The guy that is selling it tells her that it can be reprogrammed for any 4th gen.

Now, I have a GXE w/o the C&C package, meaning NO options. Can reprogramming the remote work with my car? I wouldn't think so, but who knows...

Search the forum to see what years and trim level had the keyless system. You may or may not have all the required components for the system. The "brain" is located in the trunk behind on one of the side panel. It's next to the power antenna motor. You can pull the side panel by prying the trim buttons off. Take a look and see if anything is next to the antenna motor. In my 96 GLE, its a small box below the antenna. To program the remote, search the forum.

That's what I'm asking. I know the remote can be reprogrammed, my question is if my car is capable of supporting it. I've searched and come up with nothing.

Just wondering if anyone know's or has done it.

I agree. There used to be other ways to find out if you had the keyless entry system, but the key is the box below the antenna, like Jason said.

Sometimes, it's just a matter of plugging in the enlarged phone-type jack into the box.

Well, I'll look later today. If the box is there its safe to assume that this will work, right?
