Did you loosen the nut on the pulley first?

And no, if the bolt is broken you'd need those parts, not just the pulley.

welcome to a little place I like to call hell. It sounds like you've stripped the top tensioner already, which many of us have done/seen.

That part ages and weathers badly. IMHO, you will want to replace the entire pulley assembly, it's not that costly, (50ish iirc)and the ease of adjusting a new pulley far outweighs fighting the old one.

many posts on this, search.

i just tried to loosen the belt tension by turning that bolt however when i do so notthing happens. the tension of the belt stays the same. Do i need a new puley assembly and where may i get one b\c none of the auto parts stores have it.

Research before you go turning random bolts, or you're going to break a lot of stuff.

The nut. On the pulley.

Follow the diagram. It's got nice little arrows and text and everything.

its a weird setup. i had same problem. you loosen the actual center nut on the pulley wheel and then raise or lower it. doesnt make since to me either. i took my whole assembly off cause it did that and pissed me off. just loosen the center nut on pulley about one or two turns and then raise or lower the pulley assembly. it works! just weird. most cars you dont touch the nut in the center of the pulley.

mine has broke once before....snapped off flush in the top piece as i was finishing up changing out my alternator...needless to say, i was pissed. replaced it and i havent had any problems since. and like pmohr is sayin, if you do your research on a repair before you dive rite into it, you will not break as much stuff if any.
