What is this?

This little speaker/microphone thing was in my car when i bought it second hand. Anyone know what the hell it is or where it leads to?
I've never seen one b4
It was coming out of where the roof appolstry meets the piller appolsrty...where you see the water leaking in from...which is also pissing me off...lol...any ideas?
the wire was running under the rubber running along the door...the part that overlaps the appolstry

ok, so the other end of it runs down by the hood release. It goes into the plastic beneath that (the plastic peice that runs where you step to get in below the door. If that helps

As they said, probably aftermarket phone system. Pop the door sill and trace the wire back, will be interesting what you find.

That looks exactly like the microphone I had for my Pioneer AVIC-Z2's bluetooth phone setup.

Here was the location of mine:

Hmmm I know there was an in car phone option on the Max, though I have never seen one. But I would have to agree with the others that it's an aftermarket bluetooth, was it protruding though? If not you'd think it wouldn't work worth a damn

It wouldn't lol.

They probably had it taped to the pillar then when they sold the car they just hid it instead of trying to fish it back out.

lol...it was protruding like the pic above, but there was about 4" of wire sticking out with it....it was more or less hanging there...maybe i'll try to serch it with my blackberry. May pick it up, may not. Only one way to find out...was there even bluetooth back in 95?

if it's not a hands free phone setup mic, then it could be a noise or glass breakage detector thing (given that you have an aftermarket anti-theft device installed). they're not usually placed out in the open up there though so probably the phone thing.

It's the feds. That's all that is.

My 1997 had a car phone setup (removed before I bought it), and I don't think mine had anything that looked like that. Is there any kind of weirdness in the passenger's leg area to the left? (On the side of the console.) Mine had a little square thing mounted on the side of the console (to the left)....it was removed, but you could still tell something used to be there if you were looking for it.

And no....no bluetooth in 1995. =] Not in cars, anyway....it was invented in 1994.

It's aftermarket, but I highly doubt that it's bluetooth. Check the trans tunnel and behind the console for any evidence of mounting of an old school phone cradle.

You have far too many rings on your fingers...

Seriously thought, pull the A-pillar out and see where it leads...I bet it leads down near your kickpanel/fusebox area.

So have you figured out why the water is leaking? Do you have a sunroof? If so i bet it's the sunroof drain tubes that are clogged.

tried searching for it with my phone, it never came up with anything....i think the leak is from the weather stripping around the door...it's really freakin cold out so i'n not about to go outside pulling that apart. I'll check for a mounting spot but like i said, the wire runs down behind the "running board" i'll say. i tried pulling on it but it's attached to something. It's not an aftermarket alarm cause there was one that came with the car from the factory. Maybe it is a glass breaking detection thing. I'm just going to have to take the running board off and see. As for the sunroof leak idea, where do the drain tubes lead to? I've never seen them before. It leaks on the other side in a similar spot as well. Hmmm...guess I have to check that out as well...

It's NOT from the Nissan phone system.

It's NOT.

It's from something like the Pioneer AVIC or Kenwood Excelon DNX8120.

weird..there is no sign of anything ever mounted anywhere. My blackberry never picked up anything. And the cord runs down along the steering column. Its runs along it going towards the firewall and out of site. I don't know if it goes through the firewall but i doubt it. I can't see where it ends...but there is no end in sight where it may be a plug or anything.

if it is a built in phone system, then where is the other end to plug into your phone? Like where does it come out to in your car?

As far as you know. You have no clue what the PO did, you can't say its not aftermarket if you bought the car with that there.

That is a phone mike from before the days of bluetooth. Usually the phone was hard-wired to the car and the cradle was somewhere on the center console.

well i don't see any cradle, and it must be hardwired to the car cause I can't get to the other end of the plug. I'll have another thorough look for it when i can

it's always either cold or raining or both where you are. lol

if you're really curious, you could pull out the radio trim. you'd get a better view of what's going on behind the dash and you just might find where that line goes. (if you find a countdown timer though, make sure you cut the blue wire. )

of course it is...i live on an island in Newfoundland, Canada, in the winter...it's -25 out right now. Kinda frigid. I'm going to install my subs and deck maybe this weekend so i'll be able to have a better look then.

I found out what it was. When I was taking apart the shifter trim to hook my system up, I found the other end of the mic. It was a coiled up pile of wire, never used, not able to access without taking apart the dash, and on the end of the wire was a headphone jack sort of. But a small one. I tried to plug it into my phone but the jack in my phone was the bigger one for regular sized headphones.

And that leak is the top seal of my windshield. I need to get it taken out and resealed..blahhh...any ideas on the cost of that, supposing they do not break my windhield?
