Just replaced engine, now need help of course

I just replaced the engine in my 95 maxima, i switched it out with a 97. Everything has gone smoothly so far, and went to start it and it took about 1 minute of cranking to get fuel to finally get to the engine. It started up and ran fine. But whenever you turn it off and go to turn it back on again I have to crank it for about a minute for it to even think about working, sometimes it does sometimes it doesnt. So i know i am having a problem getting fuel to the engine, or keeping fuel pressure. Any ideas?

Also a sensor broke off during the process of swapping out the engine. The picture below is the one off the 95 engine that broke, i put a sensor on that looked the same from the 97 but the harnesses wouldnt match up. The sensor has 3 vacuum lines off of it and it mounts on the drivers side right above the water hose outlets that go towards the firewall. Could this be causing some of my start up problems?

hey man, long time. what happened to the 3.5 idea?? anyways, i believe that is the EGRC solenoid. So it deals with egr. Is the car turning over and not starting or not doing anything at all?

Btw: i just did a dek swap last week.

Yeah I gave up on the 3.5 cause i am going to sell the maxima soon.... So if you wanna step up to the 3.5 I got it in my garage

But the starter will turn the engine over fine, it just sometimes will turn on and sometimes it will just sit there and keep trying to turn over for awhile.

That's the EGR solenoid (I've got one for sale if you're interested, tests good).

Could be a faulty regulator. Are you throwing any codes? I've also had that problem with a faulty CKPS POS.

Yes, that's the EGR control solenoid. When mine was broken, it had absolutely no impact on starting. The EGR valve isn't supposed to open until the engine is warmed up and the PCM is in closed-loop mode. If the ERGC solenoid valve is stuck in the position that signals the EGR valve to open (is that possible?), then it seems like it could cause problems starting, and idling when cold. It's just not what happened in my case.

Alright so if the EGR solenoid wont effect the starting any ideas on the starting issue?

I will check the codes tomorrow, my car has always had a CEL on so I didnt pay attention to if it was any different this time around.

Would a bad seal on an intake manifold gasket cause a problem like this? I changed out the upper intake manifold for my old one because it was cleaner and it seemed like the gasket seated fine, but i am just trying to narrow down anything that could cause the problem now...

Looks like its the CKPS as pmohr said. Try replacing it or checking to make sure the wires arent damaged.

Well just did some searching to see where the crank position sensor was.... went out and looked at the car and there wasnt a sensor there and the wiring that went to it was cut by the guy i bought the engine from (so i am guessing he sold it). Took it off my old engine and spliced the wires together and go figure it starts right up. Thanks for everyones help.
