I need turbo insight
i own a 99 maxima gle and i am planning on doing a lot of upgrades this summer (cosmetic and engine). one thing i plan on doing is getting a turbo or a supercharger, based on which would perform better on a maxima. also i would like to know if anyone has any suggestions as to what brand turbo to buy and how much boost is too much. thanks

Good luck on your upgrades !

In all seriousness though, the best place to start would be the supercharged/turbocharged forum. There are stickies there with FAQ's and what not, I'm sure all of your questions can be answered there:

You guys need to do more reading and less posting. All you would have to do is venture out of the 4th gen forum and peak into the the other sections such as the supercharged/turbocharged forum. Tons of info there including a thread dedicated to dyno results and list of mods. You will quickly see that many are above the 8psi mark.
This site has TONS of info, but if all you do is post without reading and researching you missing out on a lot and will always be asking questions.

RWD+boost> FWD+boost. Boost what you have if you want but I don't see the point in dropping a ton of money to squeeze 500hp or so out of a fwd. You can be anywhere from 250-to 400ish with the stock vq30.

why would u want to boost a maxima... its a 10 year old piece of crap.. lets be realistic here fellas... 5 years ago i might have agreed.. but now these are old cars..just save ur money and buy urself a newer turbo car...
besides its fwd...
besides its fwd...

well, i dont have money for a new car, but what i do have is a perfect 99 maxima that i am going to boost, (Front Wheels Drive) because it is my preference regardless if RWD is better to boost. My car has a lot of life left and if i can get 10 seconds out of it, then im set. and if it dies in the next few years, then ill get an RB26 engine swap. thanks though.

SO let me get this right, because its old we shouldnt boost it? Hmm i mean its paid for , the parts are fairly cheap but its a bad idea to boost it? Maybe we should buy a new car? Hmmm . Im still failing to see your point. The max is and still will be a damn nice car . I say boost it and enjoy. I love my boosted cars and plan to boost a third gen. O wait , that one is 17 years old , I should just buy a ZO6 and throw a blower on it. Much better idea.

what im trying to get across here guys is that there is not point of dumping money into an old car... when u get a little older and get a regular 9-5 job you will understand what it means and ur gonna kick urself in the butt for wasting money... but i guess everybody has to learn their lesson.... thats all.
you want to boost a maxima go ahead...

so ur trying to compare a supra to a maxima... thats like comparing a Lamborghini to a pinto....

There 'not being a point' in 'dumping' money in an older car is completely subjective.
Sure, you could do nothing but work and sleep all your life, but then you might as well kill yourself. Everyone needs a hobby, these cars are the hobby of most of the people on the org.

RWD is a bit over rated when it comes to boost. I mean I know they are much better, but its only when you are boosting so much power where you can feel it. FWDs are fun too. As much as I miss my 240sx I have more fun with my maxima.

Like I said before I've spent around 15k on my 240sx. I know its a crap load of money for a 20 year old car, but I don't regret it 1 bit!! I had fun in the process and at the same time I learned a lot from it. I would do it again and again if I had the time. In fact when my debt is paid off I plan on buying a s14 and swap the RB over to that.

holy gheyness. what the he.l is what with you people?
1. i will never understand why people join a MAXIMA FORUM to talk sh.t about MAXIMAs. i believe a CHEVY forum would be an appropriate place to do such.
2. inform the noob that he/she is in the wrong forum, MODs move the thread to the appropriate forum, then drop it.
3. stop flaming.

i believe you meant to say "ford" and as for boosting, i would def boost the **** out of it.. get a GT35R and jack that ***** to like 30psi and blow the front tires off of your maxima. as for running 10's your about 40k away.. for that id buy the 94 supra tt and just boost it up a few psi haha

Some of what you say makes no sense. 10 secs? you mean 1/4? RB26 what????? Please explain yourself.

10 seconds, quarter mile... RB26 Skyline motor engine swap. not in the near future, but eventaully when my car dies.

I know all about RBs. Love them engines, but they are very high priced if you want the best out of them (maintenance wise). I seriously hope you know what you will get yourself into. Most importantly I hope you will swap it in a 240 or somewhat rwd plateform because from the sounds of it, it sounds like you will swap it into your max.

i love them too, if i end up doing an RB swap, i would wait until i had enough money to be able to make some major changes such as drivetrain and possibly making it RWD. It would be strictly a project car though. Thats just a dream i have though, hopefully will work out one day.
I got the RB20 cause it was really cheap and more of a direct drop in. Plus its got that sweet sound.
