I've searched some threads, mostly its other people asking, I'll either be swapping in a de-k or 3.5 into my car in the next week or two. I really need to get a clutch while im doing it...

Now there are a gazillion clutches that I can get, but I daily drive my car as well....

Someone told me a great alternative is to just resurface my flywheel and get a 2001 Maxima pressure plate? It's also the cheapest way. What do you guys think?

Another option I'm looking into is the Spec Stage 2 Clutch, Exedy? ACT?

What do people have experience with? I want it to grab hard and still be drivable.....

My Oem clutch lived till 108k! =]

I need to make my decision in the next day or two...

If you're going DE-K, then I'd just go with a 5th gen clutch kit. That'll handle your power level decently.

If 3.5, then I'd probably step up a little with an aftermarket kit, but personally I wouldn't know which.

 

exedy FTMFW. they make some good *** clutches. lol. i had an exedy in my old 240sx. beat it to hell, burned the hell out of the clutch, and never gave me one problem. it was a direct oem replacement and i believe 20%? stronger.not to sure on the correct precentage

 

Yea, its very cheap to get the pressureplate and resurface, total of maybe $100-$130 bucks. I was just thinking maybe it'd be worth to go with something a little more powerful, I like to do some spirited driving if you know what I mean.

 

I know i am going to get **** but i like my spec. I havent had one problem with it and it holds up to anything i throw at it.

 

Don't get the Exedy Stage II, it chatters like a ****. It might just be the fact that it is a defective clutch, but it is AWFUL for daily driving.

 

Kzoosho I acually drove Turbo95Max's car and he has a Spec Stage 2,

I realllllly liked how it drove, but I haven't driven with every clutch,

maybe I liked it because it was that much better that my oem clutch with 108k.

I was hoping maybe it was discussed before and there are better options available

in the same price range?

 

i have an exedy for a 5th gen with no 00vi. It works good for daily driving but on the strip it struggles a little with the nitrous.

 

how did that happen?

 

I had to read that a few times myself, it almost seems like he's saying he's got a DE-K with a MEVI or USIM on it...or something.

 

I think he means a Exedy clutch for a 5th gen....his other posts show that he has a 97 Max.

What does the 00vi have to do with it? lol

 

Maybe he's saying it holds the power, but it's not applicable to you because he has no 00vi? Who knows...

 

Yea lol, who knows. I just want something that will hold the power, and last, and be comfortable enough...I have a heavy foot anyway so having a clutch that is a little stiffer isn't a big deal at all

i meant i have an oem exedy for a 2000 on my 97 DE but my DE doesn't have an 00vi, so my car has less N/A power that a DE-K and the clutch holds it great

i wouldn't put a spec on my car. for what you're doing I'd just go with a 5th gen clutch.

 

Cannot go wrong with a centerforce dual friction. Killer bite and an easy pedal, my Talon use to 60 ft in the 1.70s with one of these. Highly recommend.

 

On Street tires or slicks?

 

Go for the jwt clutch kit which is stage 1 and uses an exedy disc.

I've seen more spec clutch disc failures than any other brand - I've seen the results in person at the shop and one from a buddy. Some people are lucky they didn't lose their feet, literally. I've seen cars totalled from spec clutch explosions. Their QC is horrible. Some people like kzoosho get one that works fine, others get ones that explode and tear things to shreds.

 

But Spec clutches can be fun, too

If you're going to have it apart, why wouldn't you replace the clutch disc as well?

No point in a new pressure plate and resurfacing the flywheel with an old disc. Honestly I'd throw a whole new clutch kit in, call it a day.

 

hmm, i thought i could go around it.......so, where would be the cheapest place to pick that up?

 

How many miles are on the disc you want to reuse?

And price depends on what clutch kit you get, really.

Like I told you on aim I ordered the oem exedy kit for $140 shipped! To me thats a deal with a well known manufacture.

I had Competition Clutch on my 240 and I loved it!! It was stiff only cause it was a stage 5, but it drove and felt very strong no matter what I did to it.

 

yea well the oem exedy won't work that well for me pal, I want minimum a stage 1

 

So get a stage 2 Competition Clutch? I would stick with them if I had the money. When I do the 3.5 I will get it for sure.

i recently bought an exedy stg II kit and a fidanza flywheel i cant wait til they're installed....

and about the spec, lets just say, im replacing mine for less slippage i only have about 25k on the spec stg. I

 

I have ZERO problems with my Spec stage 2 but only about 8k on it.

 

I think i decided on a Exedy Stage 1....

 

I caught you thread a little late. But I would do the Exedy stage I organic. It holds nice power, it's made by the people that make the OEM discs. THe pressure plate is matched well to the clutch (I think all the Exedy lines are) and the Stage II has chatter issues.

 

i might be late on the subject too but if your plannin on staying all motor then an oem 5th gen clutch should do, i had that on my car and never had a problem it even held up for a whole year running at 7psi of boost
