Strut mount problems?

I just replaced my strut mounts, and all other top components, and now my strut makes a squeaking noise when I turn. Its driving me crazy! Did I get a bad mount?

there is a plastic bearing in the front, if broken you get a bad sound. I put my bearing back on broken and it does make sounds when turning.

No, I replaced that. I replaced the whole mount and everything up top there. I about ready to pull it off the car again and make sure everything is together properly.

Is the spring clocked correctly? OUT on the upper perch faces out and lines up with the struts lower mounting flange. Are you sure the squeak is indeed coming from the mount and not another suspension or steering component?

I replaced my entire suspension, and I have had that problem ever since I did do, about 3 months now, aside from that It's like my springs **** a certain way making my car dis-aline. really weird.

I have it all lined up properly and torqued. I've replaced my struts before with no problem.

will it do it when its not moving? try doing it with it jacked up and have someone turn the wheel and like i told someone before use a long screw driver and put it on the area where its coming from and put your ear up to the end of the screw driver. and use a some silicone lube and lubricate the suspension parts. Just a suggestion!

Well I took it all apart again. Didn't find anything wrong but when I put it all back together it didn't make the noise anymore. Not sure what it was, possibly it didn't come together properly last time?

Thanks for the quick feedback guys. Thats why I love this place!

i know that before i changed my springs on my 98 auto i was having that squeeking noise every here and there and than i found out that it was actually my strut because i changed the strut mounts and i still had the same problem. i held the strut and it twisted it and it was squeeking.

long story short...when i put the struts and springs back together i have a clicking noise (different from the squeeking) when i turn my steering wheel and the car is always disaligned either to the left or to the right depending on which side i turned my steering last. thats the plastic bearing and they broke.

hopefully my experience can clear things up

Must not have seated properly...causing the noise.

#1. Top hats (upper strut perch) typically not properly seated. Word "OUT" on top must face the wheel well.

#2. Polyvinyl spring sleeves not covering end of springs, top and bottom, causing them to pop and bind due to metal against metal. Make sure that your springs are isolated from their perches by getting those sleeves positioned correctly.

#3. Bad strut bearings (bushings) or not lubed. I had bad bushings in brand new KYB's. Heard that is problematic w/ KYB mounts. I then bought Gabriels, lubed the bushings w/ white lithium grease, no problems since.

Been there-done that too many times.

Sound came back. My mounts are all KYB and I bet the bearing is messed up. I'll take it off again and lube it up with lithium grease. Should fix the problem. It only takes me like 20 minutes to take the strut off, apart, back together, and back on the car...
