'96 B-rad

So about a year ago I got the code so I ordered a new egr valve from a nissan website and had it replaced and he also cleaned out all the ports because he said there was a lot of carbon build up. A few months after that the same code came back on so he recleaned all the ports and used fuel injector cleaner and the code went away. A few days ago the same code came back so he said he just deleted the code cleaned out all the ports and told me that he knows a tech who works at a nissan dealership to see if it's a common problem and how to resolve it. My mechanic has been working for a Mazda dealership and has fixed all of the other issues I have had with my car so it's not him. Any ideas of what it could be??
