illuminas fail again!!?

Something is still wrong. The rear settings do not respond accordingly.I realized that the back is softer than the front at all times.Even with setting 5f and 5r, the rear bounces when backing into driveway and on highway the car is somewhat hard to control after going through cracks and dents in the road. So far everything looks good, but not working as how it should. The front is perfect!!...Chime in people.....really need the help now.!!

All you have to do is adjust the damper from 1 to 5 really fast back and forward and it will act like a reset button. See if that works.

It was the gland nut that came unscrewed. Also on the other shocks on the front passenger side, the gland nut was starting to become lose. So I had one put back on and tightened and I had the passenger side tightened as well.

IMHO, i think tokicos are overrated, no better than the advance auto parts brand. i had them with a mild drop 1.5 front/1.3 rear, and within a 2 months they were blown. only difference was the front of my car was bouncing. Now i have some KYB temporarily on the front, and that temporary has been longer than expected due to funds, and they still good, no bouncing, but now my strut mounts are messed up so coilovers coiming. i would say stay away from tokico

^^ I have heard nothing but good about the illuminas, and nothing but good about the seller(ebay feedback). But.....it seems like i am the only one this has ever happened to...keep in mind, it is exactly a month since they were installed and BOTH rear shock have been playing the ***.

well maybe its just bad luck, but when it comes to spending $500-600 on struts alone, they better work right the first time, especially in these times. again, IMO, i would do coilovers, but you may try them again and get better results hopefully

Just so you know..

Just because you can compress it with your own body weight doesnt neccesarily mean they are blown. A visible leak is the most obvious, but aslong as the rebound isnt incredibly slow they are most likely okay. If you press them down and they take forever to come back up then they are most likely blown, if they come back up pretty fast then they are okay.

Your problem definately sounds like blown rear struts though. Very bouncy ride, uncontrollable at highway speeds while cornering.

What springs are you on? If your on S-techs, thats really not helping your problem.

"blown" might not be the right word to use. But.....plz bleev me....something def isnt right with these shocks bro.Right now..its basically springs only and you can actually feel and tell. The back is just like a whip right now.you go through bumps or cracks and you can almost feel the back jumping and slightly saddling left to right. Its very uncomfertable and it just pisses me off thinking about it.

Definately sounds like a problem then. Its most likely that they are "blown" Leaking and blown is two different things, a blown strut has almost no rebound, while a leaking strut, still has some rebound, but will eventually fail. Usually a leaky strut leads to a blown strut, but you can have one without the other.

Blown illuminas are not common, but it doesnt mean it cant happen, from the description, it sounds like one or both are. Good thing the rears are pretty cheap!
