97/98 are probably the most popular.

99 went to a chipped key fob and I think different emissions stuff? There's some goofy differences in 99.

95/96 just aren't as aggressively styled as the later 4th gens. The big round front grille, and indented trunk lid look weird compared to the more attractive 97-99s.

I think It really depends on what you like. The 95/96 models are lighter and they don't have the emission cannisters like the 99 or the cali spec model maxs have. The 97/99 have the front grille and the trunk upgraded and the 99 have the immobilizer issue and the coil pack Issue and the EVAP system and the 99's have the SE-L edition with some more bells and whistle then the other maxs from the previous years. I have a 99 also and that has yest gave me any kinds off probelms that I have listed (knock on wood)

The way it seemed in the other thread was like 99's should never had been made so basically I understand with buying a used car and plus with the age I expect problems but if I can avoid any extra headaches i would like to

If the coil pack goes bad just get It replaced and once It's has gone bad it should not go bad again. I am more worried about the immobilizers than anything else because I have heard cases of the immobilzers going bad and they have to get them replaced and get them re programmed. I know I not yet seen any of these to go bad on me yet. (knock on wood)

There are fed and cali spec 99s. The cali spec have a cat in one of the headers which is a bigger pita to swap than the y pipe in the other years.

99s have the coils issue which is fixed with new coils and the potential for the immobilizer issue. They are still much more reliable than most cars on the road.

Get the most mechanically sound example regardless of year. Body style and options are just personal preference.

I personally prefer the 97 Se. Mine didn't have leather or heated seats but it had everything else and it never burned a drop of oil in the 148k miles I owned it. You also may be able to get a high mileage 5th Gen for say around $4k or 5k dollars.

You should get a 97 or 98 in my opinion they have probably the best looking front end or any cheap and affordable car

But if we were talking about dream cars, the Acura TL would be my top, then comes the new Nissan Altima

Don't hurt me!!!!!!

For having a 96 and a 97, I would have to say I like the 97 better. It does help that it is a 5spd, but I'm trying not to be biased. But I must say I like the styling of the 97 better.

Maybe I'm crazy, but personally I like the '95-96 grille better, but the '97-99 bumper better...

I have a 97 and I love it. My mom had a 95 back in the days and it was nice too, but the 97+ have nicer options. Mine has heated seats and mirrors and all the goodies.

You'll definitely get unbiased opinions in this thrad. Nobody will vote for the car that they currently own. Definitely not.

If you're only looking at 4th gens, I'd consider the 1995-1999 range.

lol, i knew i would see this before i hit the bottom of the page.

i would drive a bunch of them and then you can make an informed decision based on your budget, the cars service record, condition, mileage and your own personal styling tastes.

95-96 Parts are cheaper, just try shopping for a SP2 or a lip kit.

Have only owned one 4th Gen '98 with 288,000 kms on it and never had a problem. Maybe the most reliable car ever made.

97 or 98 pearl white

97-99 has a more aggressive front and rear end than 95-96
97-98 has less mechanical issues than the 99
so that leaves you with a 97 or 98
and arctic white pearl (QN0) is the best color

not biased

i have a 96...

theyre all the same essentially
altho i think 95-96 should be a little cheaper
i would not care about year if you find a good deal because the differences are negligible
but i think the 97-99 looks a bit more updated in and out
