Do '99's have a faster steering rack? The front end looks the best.

i would have to say 98.
in my opinion the 98 is the best 4th gen look.
the other ones either look too round or boxxy.. in some places; the 98 is like the hot chick on a girl click. :O

Exactly what I was going to say.

The tailights/trunk of the 95-96 drives me crazy. It's SOOO ugly. If you get a 95-96 get rid of the granny lookin trunk and the front ends look like a fish with its mouth open

1995-1996s have some nice things Nissan cut for the refresh. Glass headlamps, cornering lights, cloth-covered interior A,B,C pillars on GLE models, etc. Lighter, too. More of a sleeper than the '97-'99.

1997-1999s look like a proper sports sedan should. +1 on Arctic White Pearl. It looks best on a '97-'99 SE.

Just a matter of preference.

Everyone seems to want the 97-99 style, that's why I like the 95/96 style. Not as many people like them but I do. It adds to my uniqueness.

It depends on which front and rear you like. As far as reliabilty goes, stay away from 99's.

95 cause of the emissions where i live, i dont have to take it in at all.
i do prefer the look of the 97-99rear end, but thats an easy enough swap that ill do in time

+1 for the white comment, theres just something about it that looks so good.

Like a gas mileage thread, this is going to be one of those threads that gets revived each year by new members seeking 15 posts, with random posts like "98", "96", until 2015

i have three 1999 nissan maxima's. and that's all i have. i'd say go for the 1999, especially if the coil was already replaced on the car you are buying. good luck
