how do i clean Rust "dust and stain" inside corner light?

Hi guys, the title pretty much says all of it.

the stain inside the light makes the light orangish (if not all the way orange) in color when i turn on the lights.

i really want to make it clear again.

ive tried alchohol but it doesnt clean the stain all the way.

also, if there is a way to safely take off the front piece of the corner light(the glass/plastic one) i would like o know how to.

thx in advance.

Umm, this is going to sound stupid, but they're supposed to be orange.

Unless at some point in time you replaced the stock amber bulbs with white ones, the corner lights should light up amber.

My guess? behind the fluted lens that the corner light has, at certain angles you can see orange, even with the light off. It's the "egg yolk" effect of a clear housing with an amber bulb.

I've never seen one of these lights actually rust out, they're sealed pretty good and I would guess the metal the reflector is made out of isn't iron.

Maybe post a picture?

Cornering lamps would be pretty pointless if they were amber. I do believe they're supposed to be clear. If you're talking about the lights in the bumper, they should be orange. (I'm confused) If you could post a picture pointing to the one you're talking about, it'd be easier to help.

There are two white lamps on the front of the 4th gen - the foglights, and the headlights.

Both bumper lights are OEM orange, clear bulb

The corner light, the one next to each headlight, is clear with an amber bulb.

Mine doesn't have an amber bulb. I don't think any 4th gen does.

i bought mine on ebay 2 yrs ago. they used to have a buttload of them. (non packages) between 20-30 for the pair of corners only. i guess the demand went down so many of the ebay sellers stop selling them?

if you cant find it on ebay then post a wanted thread in the classifieds. i would think some org member has them sitting in their closet somewhere

Nope, its not a turn signal. It isn't supposed to be amber, its a corner light. If you have the S&C package you have cornering lights there, which would be useless if they were amber. Do you not know what cornering lights are? They light up brighter, WHITE, to allow you to see where you are turning when you turn the turn signals (in the bumper) on. This bulb is supposed to be clear, if your car has an amber bulb it is the wrong one.

$75+ for used/new ones from ebay. for 1 passenger side c-light.
with the shipping included. (i live in canada)
for some reason there are no dealers in canada.

this is why i opted to just clean them out.

i know theyre supposed to be amber when the light in on but mine is full blast orange because the inside has rust stains on it..

ill try the baking thing when i get home from work.

thx guys

I have a 97 SE with the S&C package.

In the FAQ, it says that in 97 the cornering lamps were removed.

In my car, the corner lights are clear, with amber 1157 bulbs. They turn on with the parking lights. They do not flash, nor do they get ever change brightness.

Is it 95-96 people with clear bulbs, and us 97-99 folks have amber bulbs?

okay to clarify...

corner lights are the lights located adjacent to the headlights. the 95/96 had a special feature where the corner lights would turn brighter when signaling in that direction. the color of the light does not matter (amber or clear) because it has nothing to do with your turn signal. it is merely preference, that is why youll see people have different bulbs in the corner light.

the amber gives a nice contrast so thats why i did it on mine. my blinkers are amber as well (Front/back)
