to those with creaking door hinges....

well, i got sick of the doors creaking everytime it got cold, so i said " hmmmmm, what would work on getting rid of the noise???? i had a little rust on the rear hinges and thought , why not clean off the old grease and use steel wool to take rust off??? so, i got some degreaser, ( typically for dishes, dawn lol ) and a sponge and scrubbed all the old grease off of the hinge, then i got a piece of fine hair steel wool and lightly scrubbed all the rust i could see back to bare metal until smooth. then, instead of heavy duty grease, i used 3 in 1 oil from schwinn, really old can of oil, probably my grandfathers from 60 years ago and soaked her up good and wet until i heard no more creaking!!!!!!! walla, creaking sound is no more!!! i know there's probably other ways to do this, but im happy i did a repair on this car that was free for a change!!!

you probably did'nt have rust on your hinges like i did, plus mines a 95, and the grease doesnt seem to work on mine, thats why i used 3 in 1 oil, helped iron out the squeak on mine a little better.

hopefully you did something about covering up that "bare metal" after you scrubbed it smooth. Rust never sleeps.
but yeah... white lithium grease ftw in my case too.

Second on White Lithium Grease. I put it on about 10 years ago, and never had revisited it.

I used motorcycle chain lube. It's like a really thick grease mixed with a light mineral oil. So when you spray the hinge it soaks right in, then the lighter oil evaporates, leaving a coat of thick grease inside the hinge. I did this last year after using wd40 for ever, and no squeaks since. This stuff is great for many things.
