95 Maxima with 98 Engine- HELP HELP!!!

First and foremost, Hello World!

Alright, while searching craigslist for a used vehicle, I came across an ad with a very reasonable price...Ok, I'm looking at the pics, blah blah, yeah it looks good then I scrolled up and read the description and it reads...

Description:
95 maxima with a 98 motor... car has 143k and the motor has 80k car is not currently running it needs a computer........

Ok, I called the dude up and he said, "yeah I drove the car for about 4 months then It just stopped running and i did an ECU code check and i got the code that it needs a new ECU"...THat right there was fishy cause I never heard of an engine just stop running after months of driving and then getting a code that states the car needs a new ECU..He said the car cranks and whatnot but wont start...I know the typical problems 'engine coolant temp, camshaft position sensor'...

So, MAXIMA.ORG, help me understand something...Is his story logical or do you think the problems deeper then what he states? What could it be? Im no newb, I've owned 5 Maximas so im not a newb, but this story right here is kind of sketchy....plus he wants 500 or B/O....Please Help.

Is it nice enough to part out and possibly get over 500 bucks. If so I'd buy it. And attempt to figure out the problem. then maybe you can sell it for more.
But 500 dollars and he says it ONLY needs a ecu? Well an ECU is a cheap problem.

So..I'm going to guess Deeper as well.

Do a simple compression check on the motor. If all is OK, buy the car. It's probaby just a sensor, an ECU failure is very uncommon. Even if it's an ECU failure, you can pick up a used one for 300 bucks. That puts you in an $800 dollar car, you still win.

If you've already got a 98 then you've got all the parts you need to figure out what is wrong with the other car.
