Hey, I have been getting the code P0500 which points to speed sensor malfunction. However, I changed the speed and that didn't fix the code. Then I tried tightening the screws in the speedo and that got rid of it for like 1500 miles. However, the code just came back. My speedo seems to be correct however my idle is sometimes a little bit low. Does anyone know if this could cause a code like this? I am going to try to adjust my idle however I am curious if anyone else has encountered this code and found these symptoms as well. Thanks

An idle issue shouldn't set a P0500, no. Have you tried tightening the speedo screw again? It's possible that it's vibrated loose.

hmm so how tight should they be, because my code did go away for a while. I was thinking about going in there again and trying again.

Tight enough to make a good connection. If it's loose, that could be your problem.

I am having the same problem. The first time I tightened the screws it held for nearly 500 miles, the second time it lasted for barely 100 miles.

Is there a way to get the screws to stick in there?

There is nothing else wrong with my instrument cluster except the CE light kicks on when the screws come loose.

Go to the auto parts store and tell them one word: LOCTIGHT!
It's a thread compound that keeps bolts from loosing up when installed, that (should) stop the problem of the bolt getting loose.
