ECU trouble

My ECU had a bad ground so i had to buy a new one, i was under the assumption that each year maxima has a different pinout so i had to buy the same year ECU, and i have a I30. I bought one from a 96 SE i have a 96 I30t, i just plug it into test if the car will run, i turn the key to the on position and everything lights up and looks fine, as soon as i turn the key to try and start it everything just dies, no lights nothing. i unhook the battery and and hook it back up same result. So are the ECUs from the Maximas and I30s different or is there something wrong here?

The ECUs are the same. The only A32 with a substantially different pinout is the '99.

It had a bad ground where, internally? How did you come to that conclusion?

Sounds more like your problem is battery related. Have you made sure the connections are good on the battery? No corrosion, clamps tight?

The ECU has nothing to do with the physical starting circuit, only with making the engine run.

nissan did a diagnosis and told me it was the ground, i didnt suspect the battery because the car had just been running, i drove it to school lol, but turns out it was the battery, thanks.

Something interesting that I have discovered recently: 96 Max has Evap system, including canister, purge valve, MAP/BARO and all the other associated stuff. 96 I30 does not, at least the Federal version I have doesn't.

This could make a difference, but not how it starts and runs though.
