I have a coil that gets hot and swells up to the point of not working. I replaced all the coils and this one continues to swell and get hot. I have put 3 on and still have the problem.

I called the dealer yesterday to talk to a tech and he said it could be the ballast resistor. Has anyone ever heard of this on a Maxima and what it's purpose may be? The only time I have heard of one is on an old points and condensor unit, which this car obviously is not.

what do you mean swells up? pics? did it like explode on 1 area?
i experienced this rather numerous amount of times and i'm still trying to figure out what the issue is. i already went through about 6 NEW coils and they all exploded.

 

Do you have any modifications done to your Maxima? Was the ECU wiring harness ever tampered with, (ie. remote start system, anything aftermarket)
