Sunroof Question

As you all know I have a 4th gen and I'm in need of advice or next course of action. I have a leak on either side of my a pillars. I thought it might have been the drains as discussed earlier in another members post. I have had the drains cleaned and it's still doing it. I sent phmor a pm so if anyone else knows anything please chime in.

Has the windshield ever been replaced? I had this problem when I had mine replaced. It wasnt sealed properly and the auto glass company that did the work fixed it under the warranty.

Is the rubber trim along the doors and such still there? This is a perplexing problem haha, I think the only way to truely know is to take apart the pillars and the roof lining! But its a pain!

To my knowledge the car is original. Never had anything done to it till now when I got it. I thought about the windshield but don't know. As for the other post the seals are like new. And it does this sitting still or driving. I figured it would be a pain but I gotta do what needs to be done. I'm not gonna have my interior messed up.

A pillar trim pops out. It is easy. Roof lining is PITA job.

Where are these drains located exactly? I might have to clean mine out and see if that works.

They are in the corners of the sunroof. Mine were clogged up a couple summers ago and I shot some compressed air down the drains. Voila, problem solved!

So what should I do? Open up the sunroof and see if I can just get it outta there?

Yea, you can do that. I took mine to my dealer and they blew the stuff out for free, but I can't vouch for your local dealer. Just try and find a compressed air machine and blow the air down the holes. Should drain behind the front wheels.

Or you could stick something long in the drainage tube of the sunroof, and it will unclog it a bit, then keep spraying the inside of the tube with water, and wait till its uncloged.

I believe theres 2 drain tubes, mine is behind the drivers side wheel.

I wish it were that easy. As stated earlier it has been done already. When it quits raining long enought I will attempt to remove the headliner and go from there. Will let you all know what I find.

OK I have an update. It has been raining all day today so you would think the pillars would be soaked. Now the pillars are dry and the passenger side carpet and floor are soaked. I can barely tap the carpet and it splashes? What could be causing this? Just curious

To be completely honest with you, i think you might just need to tear the car's trim apart take some time in a dry place, after you bail out the pass seat, and pour some water onto various parts of the car.. and than wait... take some good looks around inside the car see if you can spot the leaks.. and mabey pick up some of my favorite material ever... Gasket Sealer!

Pull the headliner down and look at the drain lines. You may have blown them off the nipple on the sunroof frame. The headliner is actually easy to pull down. Take the screws off the sunvisor, remove the side pillers and the headliner will pull down. It's only held up with clips. Once you get it down far enough, look at the drains in the corners of the sunroof frame. Pull the hoses off and blow air through them. Make sure the nipples aren't cracked and reconnect the hoses. That should stop the water from entering the cabin.

Windshield seal

I had this exact problem.. Wet pillars and soaked carpet. Turned out to be the windshield seal had developed some holes allowing water to enter there, travel toward the door windows, down the pillar, then down behind the kick panel and onto the carpet.
Take off kick panel trim and door sill. Use hose and dump water over the suspect areas and watch for water. I used black RTV and ran a bead along top of windshield.. Problem solved.

Good luck.

OK fellow members I have an update for ya. The dude I had fix my drains fixed them but ph---ed them up too. He blew them out to clean them and then the hoses blew off the nipple. That was part of my leak. Fixed that. Done the water test and had a small drip at when of the screws that hold the track down. Sealed up everything and NO MORE LEAKS!!! On with the pics. The tube of stuff at the bottom is what I used to seal everything.

Can someone please upload a picture where I can see the sunroof drain lines (tubes)? My sunroof is leaking and water is leaking down my drivers side pillar and all over my carpeting.

The second pic in post number 19 is the drivers side drain tube. Where you see the black caulk is where I had a small leak at. Basically where the factory caulk is i just redone it. Hope this helps.

Hmmm...The pics is too small and I'm having trouble locating the drain tube. Is a larger picture available, preferably one that highlights (or circles) the actual tube.

Thanks
