Got a 0407 code after swapping tires...

It's the crankshaft positon sensor. I found this thread about the 0407, but his belt snapped and nothing like that happened in my case.

http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...nsor-code.html

When swapping the tires we might have rotated one or both of the front tires by 5-10 degrees at most. I don't think that this could damage the car but I thought I would check with you guys first.

Thanks,

Tyler

Well, have you visually checked the sensor and harness as I suggested in the very thread you link to?

If not, go do that.

yeah, the sensor visually looks fine. no bare wires etc. On closer inspection it looks like i need a new belt so I'm thinking maybe its causing the issue.

The belt has nothing to do with it.

Disconnect it and make sure the connections are clean, then take the CKPS off and clean up the magnet.

So I finally got around to cleaning the CKPS (ref) and while I had it out I measured resistance on it and got about 600 ohms which is a little bit above the normal range (470-570 ohms at room temp).

Since the CEL is intermittent so I can see how if its a little too high the light would only trip occasionally. You guys agree with this?

Also does anyone know if the CKPS code is caused by hard starts or does the CKPS going bad cause the hard start. IE, is the 0407 code a symptom of or the of cause the occasion hard start?

:-D

The CKPS REF code can be thrown by a slow or hesitant start, or the code can be thrown by a bad CKPS REF which will cause a hard start.

Even if it tests fine, it can still be failing.

Damn, I was kind of hoping it was one or the other. I guess if it goes again I'll get a new CKPS and go from there.

Thanks :-D
