There is no such thing as too much CF!!

Good info Ilyak on the Altima wheel(s)

Nice work on the subharness connector(s) DJ. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing the final results!

Yup.. the wheel and the relocated horn and cruise controls are installed. The dash is back together. Just making a custom column cover to cover all of the hideous gaps! (I know YOU know what I mean, Wizard.. lol) I have my materials, just taking a break for a coupla days! The thread has NOT been abandoned, I WILL update with pics as soon as it's complete! Instead of a 3 piece column cover, it will soon be a 4 piece! Stay tuned for more..

Looks good, but IMHO. Putting an aftermarket Steering wheel in a sports sedan will have people screaming Ricer at me.

DJ's car is heavily modded so it goes with the look.

Putting a wheel like that into a stock Maxima doesn't work.

Just as IlyaK stated, not on a nicely modded car with a nice name brand steering wheel.
Now if the car was mostly stock, and had one of those cheap ebay steering wheels, ricer for sure.

So...is anyone going to try doing the Altima wheel? I'm considering it...but not 100% sold on it. I'd love to have steering wheel controls though. That's the main reason for my consideration.

that Crown Royal shift pulls it all together, makes the species of wood in your dash seem a little more 'extinct'

Ok..

So THIS is what the final custom trim piece looks like. Took about 14 hours of work! Fuxxed up the first one.. lol.

This is what it looked like BEFORE the trim piece is attached:

Here it is, trim attached to the column cover..

The camera dramatically brings out the color difference in things.. it seems to blend/match a lot better in person! Could always paint it, but as youll see in the next post, its not that noticeable. I'm happy with it.

The horn button can be seen just beyond the wheel.. (hint: the red button! lol) I wanted black, but couldnt find any in that shape and size.

And last but not least, we have the cruise controls. They arent permanently mounted, but the extremely ODD shape of the switch actually helped hold it where it is! lol

I havent decided if that is its final destination, but it works well so far. Not the prettiest looking switch, but it serves the purpose. I know what the switches are and what they do, and nobody else drives my car! lol

Thanks. It's a Momo Race, dont recall model #. I bought it off a guy in Japan, used. It's in mint shape though. The horn DOES work, but it's the red button. Factory works all the wiring through the clockspring. Since I had to remove that, I am not able to get anything to the wheel. That's what I made that subharness for, earlier in the thread.

Man those are some sexy wheels...I would hop on an aftermarket one if I could manage to find one with a decent size 'center' part, like a bulky piece where the air bag would be if it had one. I just cant get over the extra space around the column (does that make any sense at all?)

Awesome work DJ. I wish the 4th gen columns would tilt down further. I love how much the wheel in my 09 tilts down.

WHAT?
^ Flava_24/7- How is my wheel too big? Its only 330mm. And I no longer have the Crown Royal Bags, they were just temporarily. Now I have some Louis Vuitton material in there with the lighter faux wood grain. Looks a ton better.

No white gauges for me, although Im in the market for rings!

This isn't your typical old thread revival..

So, after relocating the cruise controls to the floor, I was happy to not have lost them.. BUT, I wasn't very happy with the appearance of them right by the door! I knew it was temporary, because there was NO WAY I was gonna deal with that uncleanliness!! SO, in the background I have been working on a lil project..

..and this week, while upgrading my stereo headunit, was the perfect time to install it!

..and so, without further ado, I bring to you Retractable Ashtray Mounted Cruise Controls!

No, Im not kidding.. lol.

A closeup..

And fully installed and operational! Lots of custom work, but I am very pleased with the end result!

Cruise controls at your fingertips, at the push of a button.. err, ashtray! lol

Another closeup of finished product..

I actually have a trim bezel for it too, which I havent installed yet. It needs to be shaved down a little at both ends first. We'll see how it comes out.. I dont feel that it NEEDS it, but if it cleans it up a lil more, then why not, right? I changed the ashtray bulb to a blue LED< thus creating a nice blue backglow behind the switches! I also took this opportunity to do a blue LED conversion to my heater controls, thus completing the full LED conversion on the interior! 18 blue LEDs in each door courtesy light, 36 blue LEDs for trunk lighting, 12 white LEDs in each maplight, 48 white LEDs in the dome light, all windows switches, dash switches, cluster, etc.

Feedback?

Not a bad place to put them per se, but probably not where I would have put them.
