need a good mid-priced brake set-up for my 95...
as stated, my brakes feel loose and non-responsive and im looking for a good mid-priced set-up for my 95 auto max. fluids good, new pads up front and just passed inspection but they"ll pass at a certain thickness which sometimes i wonder about. i want better response time so i dont have to worry about rear-ending somebody like i almost did today. i did look in stickies and on ebay but dont want to get junker short lived brake set up, thanks>
for the money a set of front brakes from a 6th gen max are great. i just put 2004 max calipers on my buddies 97 last weekend. the only modification to have them fit was to drill out the hole where the bolt passes through to bolt the caliper. other than that it was a very easy unbolt and bolt up process.
as far as pricing i was able to get a set up off of a 2006 max with only 2000 miles on it when it got wrecked and i got the rotors, pads, and calipers for $150.
that's what i would recommend

just my two cents... if you decide to stick with factory brake setup dont get aftermarket pads (at least not Akebono). I have them on my car now with brembo blanks and the pads just bounce around in the calipers. good on brake dust but im over that, id rather have good strong brakes that dont make noise everytime you hit a bump. brembo blanks are workin like a charm ;-)
good pads are the only thing you can buy that will help with the situation you are trying to avoid. changing calipers and rotors will do nothing in the quick panic stop situation. pads with good (or better than you have now) initial bite are all that will help.
ever since i did the bbk upgrade, i have yet to be close to hitting somebody.

Doesn't matter how big your brakes are once your wheels are locked, you're SOL.
thats what i was thinking as well. i cant afford to buy all this new stuff, just want better braking for stop and go traffic. thanks for re-affirming my desicion.
i disagree. i drive in miami all the time (crazy drivers) and have had plenty of close calls while having my stock setup with brembo rotors and hawk pads and i used to practically eat rear bumpers for lunch.

Sounds like your driving habits have changed or your old setup had something wrong with it.
If you're driving such that you require a BBK on the street tht often you'd be spending many a night in jail. BBKs do nothing for the street. Pads and tires are the only things that matter in matters of quick panic/twitch braking. There's no way you will ever create enough heat to require anything more than those unless you are doing 130+ and then hammering the brakes like you're lapping Sebring.

I WITHDRAWL MY OBJECTION!!
If you are running a 13" Cobra rotor bbk, then you are running 17" wheels + and most likely better tires. Thus, this setup SHOULD net you better braking. Especially with the torque arm advantage that the 13" rotors give you.
Agreed.. most ppl forget this.. but theres no sense in spending ridiculous amounts of money on a BBK using cobra rotors and z32 calipers.. when a 6th gen setup will do the same thing for over half the money.. but hey its your money.. just my .02
I put the 2005 setup on my 1998. It worked perfectly. Stops on a dime and doesn't overpower the car. Huge difference. All parts are available from any local auto parts store. The only scary part is drilling the caliper mount. It turned out to be easy and no problem. Only do the front as it is all that is necessary.
