My Maxima Scares Me....

so now on top of the other issues I have with the maxima..here is the new one. the car likes to stay on..as in once I turn the ignition on..it won't go off (i can roll down the windows without a key and the dash lights stay on)....then...I drive the car..park it...turn the key to off...got out the car and went to my front door and realize the engine was still running....holy helll im scared so I unhooked the battery ground. all I have done tofay was clea the maf with crc...so..um.. is my car ecu going? is this where my issues are? also..wile driving the cel came up..and then it was flashing...at so many different rates....

OP: Any recent electrical work on the car? Someone sneak in a turbo timer on you?

Actually, that's not a bad thought. Do you have a remote start on the car?

Something must be backfeeding power into the ignition circuit, somewhere. That or the ignition switch is bad. I'd drop the steering column trim, pull the ignition switch and manually cycle back and forth, see if it does the same.

Have you tried it again since you disconnected the battery?

The flashing CEL indicates a severe misfire, but nothing the CEL is going to say will help with your current issue.

no electrical work. I do have a viper 5901 on the car...

this is freakin crazy lol. im going to unplugg the brain..but the alarm has been on for about 2 months now....all I did was clean the maf...and then I start it up.....what's a severe misfire? does that mean its a coil? or sumthing ele?

IS That the source of my other issues? dammit..gonna check th code this week...

Could be a plug, coil, injector, wiring, ECU, etc. There are a hundred things it could be, without doing any diagnostics.

That's really the first thing you should do, since you have a remote start, is disconnect it and see if the issue persists. It's always possible that it is starting to act up, just by coincidence.

that is the weirdest thing. It has to be in your ignition. Well not really actually. if it starts the car, why wouldn't it turn it off...

My vote goes to the Viper or it's wiring as the issue for the key off running.

On my previous car I had this issue. Ended up needing a new ignition switch.

Fixed!!

Aparently when I took off the bottom of the dash on the drivers side, I put a screw in that was longer than the original ones...(side where the fuse box is)...

I just retraced my steps backwards and the ignition turned off....weird!!! I guess it was keeping somethng in contact back there.

Thanks. Now, back to square one...
