Going with a new cluster !!

Hi
To solve the issue of the speedometer,I will put another instrument cluster (155k miles).........But I have something in my mind , Is it possible after several thousand or so , the cluster will go nuts again and becomes like the one replaced !?? Will it work well for some time ? is a cluster thingy going bad is a common peoblem in Maxima 4th gen ??

Thanks

It's not an extremely common problem (bad coils on the '99s, KS, license plate light bracket rusted to holy hell), it just happens sometimes.

Of course it's possible, but it's also possible that it'll burst into flames and consume your body alive. Possible, but unlikely.

I haven't had much luck with replacing these things with used ones. I think they're relatively delicate and don't survive wrecks very well.

The original cluster threw a VSS code 2 years ago so I got one from a junk yard. It fixed the cel but the odo quit a month later. Bought another one off ebay and now the tach is sticking.

I still have the other two with working tachs, but all the colors are different. The original has white face with red needles, the second has black face with white/black needles, and the current one has white face with white/black needles. So no matter how i mix this up it's going to look retarded.

It's not glass, but yes. There are a few clips holding it in place around the perimeter of the cluster.

I have a 97 with a manual odometer. Then I saw a blacked out gauge from a JDM Cefiro, but it has a digital odometer. Will it be a bolt-on affair or do I've to mod it to make the odometer work?

i don't think it will work, but i'm not sure of what would be necessary to mod it to make it work, if thats even possible

It would probably 'bolt in', but the wiring is different.

It would most likely be just like any other digital odometer swap in the A32:

Etc.

Wait. Did that answer his cluster question or is this site messed up right now? It sounds like you answered a Maxima Reliability question. lol
