EVAP canister question
EVAP canister question
So I am finally getting around to swapping out my EVAP canister, which I bought from Courtesy Nissan around 2 years ago.
When I tried to connect it, I realized that the "Fuel Tank" hose inlet is much smaller than the hose itself and the inlet on my old canister. On the old canister (which is back on the car now), the hose is almost the same size as the "Purge" hose.
Can someone help me identify exactly what I need to order to get a canister with the bigger "Fuel Tank" inlet? I've already wasted $200 on this canister, which I cannot use. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about:

Thanks,
Doug

Sorry- it's a 99. I believe it is Cali spec because it has a swirl valve, though I'm not sure (how can I check?)
The PN starts with 14950 but I'm not sure what the last 5 digits were. I got it from Courtesy Nissan and their site just says 14950 (http://www.courtesyparts.com/kb_sear...1784_1814_1817). It looks like the number printed on the canister itself is 14950-56U18.

With the build date and the emissions spec, I can tell you which one you need.
For how to check, it's in the stickies.
So how do I tell if my car is Cali or Fed spec?
Raise your hood. Look for a shiny metal identification tag fastened to the passenger side of firewall. The top row is the Vehicle Identification Number, starting with J. The second row is model information. The first five characters are BLHUL. The 12th character is the destination:
N = Canada
V = California
U = US, not California

I'll check next time I am at the car (it's in a garage down the street). Thanks.
14950-56U18 doesn't show up as an option in FAST for the A32, and I can't pull it up in Parts Master either, so...

It's possible they gave it to you for a different vehicle, as it is a valid part number, just not for these cars. That or it was removed from the listings.
i'm not sure why yours was that much. I paid $22 for a evap canister from the inifiniti dealership ray catena in edison nj aroudn 1 1/2 years ago. All the hoses fit fine and i had a 98 i30
#1 yes, as I said it's a 99
#2 I don't think I "got raped on price" unless I chose the wrong item; how much did you pay for yours and do you have a part number?
I know it isn't hard to replace, with the right part.

at you. i dont have a part # but it's the same one as the one i took out and fit perfectly. sensor was hard to take off the old one cause the bolt kept turning and turning so i just a flat head and pryed off the box by cutting around it making sure not to damage the sensor to get to the screw.P.S. next time call dave b, he won't screw you over with pricing..

i told you the price i paid for mine...it was $22 -$28 (couple of years ago, can't remeber exact price), no more than $30 from the infiniti dealership. I thought it was going to be more, and it wasn't. IMO, if my dealership is charging me $28 with tax any everything...and your's is charging you $200 something, that dealer just

I didn't know Dave B was still around- maybe I'll PM him.
Sorry, my reply wasn't to you. Some EVAP canisters are $30-$50 and some are $150-$200. I am not sure what the difference is, but if you do a search for the part number you can see that many have paid around $200 for it.

to the op, maybe thats why yours is so expensive and won't fit cause they charged you for the cali spec one and you have a fed???
If you've got your production date and emissions spec, I can get you a part number and price.
Or call Dave B, but he'll still need those two pieces of information, or more likely your VIN (easier).

Thanks for the quick replies, everyone. I have contacted Dave B.
I won't be able to get to my car to get the production date/emissions spec for a few days (working late and it is housed a few blocks away). pmohr, my VIN is...

You need:
14950-4L60A, $184.09 each at Courtesy
Or:
14950-4L600, $184.09 each at Courtesy
But 14950-4L600 has been superceded by 14950-4L60A.
Dave B will probably be cheaper.

Thanks again.
See if you can exchange with Dave B. He's a dealer just like the guy you got it from. Someone will eventually need the part you have, and since you've never installed it, I don't see why Dave's dealership couldn't use it.
So 14950-4L60A is what I would need? I'm a 99 Cali. I have a P1440 code for "small leak". Not intending to buy it, still planning on testing other stuff, but just wondering.

Plus, that part is probably an 'order item' meaning the dealer you bought it from ordered it from Nissan's warehouse, which is where Dave would get it from.
I don't see why this would be a problem, but then again, businesses don't always think logically.
