Trans. leak

I was underneath my car today changing oil, and I noticed my auto trans is blowing fluid out the side. Not around the pan but somewhere up where the axel connects to the transmission. I was wondering if there is a seal there that's easy to replace. Has anyone had to replace any seals in an auto?? If so how hard is it. The trans has 211k miles on it and still shifts pretty smooth considering

thanks

ya, the seals are bad/worn out. Usually means that the differential carrier bearings are bad also.

Did you do any recent axle or trans work?

It's not likely that the diff bearings in the auto went out, but it's always possible.

Search around for how to replace the axle seals, the procedure is identical on the auto and 5MT.

ya what he said^^ also, u should check for any free-play where the axle connects to the transmission. I think that any more than about 1-2mm of play indicates bad bearings. just a heads up for ya,

Had my axels replaced way back in 04 at around 140,000. Ahhhh I forgot my car does have this "clunk" sound when shifting into 3rd or 4th gear sometimes. I've gotten so used to hearing it, i don't really pay it much attention anymore. I thought it was something in the suspension, but it could be the bearings!

Thanks
