95-98 ECU IN 99. Immobilizer Question

I'm looking to install a 95-98 ecu into my 99 cali-spec with EU. My question to all the guru's is, will the immobilizer be disabled with the 95-98 ecu or am I going to have to get the ecu reflashed to start my car?????
Thanks in advance.
-Will

There is no such thing as the immobilizer in the 95-98 ECUs, so there's nothing to reprogram...

You are aware that the pinout is different for the '99s, right?

If you still have your EGR system, the earlier ECUs can't control it; '99 has an electronic stepper motor, all of the other A32s use vacuum operated EGR valves.

You'll more than likely have a bunch of emissions codes, unless you go with a '95 (or likely a '96 as well).

Is anything wrong with your current ECU, or are you wanting to swap out just for the hell of it?

I have an 04 vq35 going in. I'm looking to get rid of the egr system all together. The reason for the ecu swap is for tune ability with the EU. I would prefer a 95 ecu being that it is more bare bone than the later ecu's. Not being able to start the car with the swapped ecu is my main concern. If I'm correct, doesn't the 99's have a chip in the key to synchronize the immobilizer with the 99 ecu? If so, Would the chip in the 99 key be disabled if the 95 ecu was swapped in, thus leading the chip being pointless???

Yes, the immobilizer system, chip in the key, all of that stuff would become dead weight.

IMO, just do the full swap. It's a lot less mechanical work (though a lot more wiring work), and you'll be much happer with it as a full swap. Jime has done both and once he went full, he never looked back.

What do you exactly mean by full swap? 04 ecu with 04 motor?

The full swap is harness, ECU, engine.

Although the best for a full swap is A33B equipment (for the harness/ECU, at least) because IIRC the A34 has a full CAN system even for the 6MT, whereas the A33B only has a full CAN system for the 4AT.

So you prefer the full swap over the 95 ecu for tuning with the EU?

With the hybrid swap, you've got no VCTs, no easy VIAS control, etc.

Regardless of tuning or not, I'd go with the full swap every time, but that's just me.

There's a bunch of info on it in AM.

Cool. I'll re-consider the 95 ecu swap and read up on this in All Motor. Thanks for the helpful info.
