tranny not shifting right

I installed a new tranny that i learned about from someone on here. I was told it was a level 10 and it came w/ a good torque converter (i forget the name of it off hand).

But the issue is now about after 5k, it doesn't shift in D until i rev it high. If it manually shift it, its fine. Tranny fluid seems to be at an ok level. I think i had too much in it before so i dumped some of it and brought it back up to where it should be.

any thoughts? thanks in advance!!

What is a 'level 10 transmission'?

Does it sound like it's slipping? How does the fluid: look, color, odor, feel? It should be new if it's only got 5k on it. Are you sure it was 'new'?

How does it shift otherwise? Any jerking or lurching when put in gear (R / D)?

So it'll start from a stop with no problems if you have it down in manual low, but not if it's in Drive?
