Fidanza Flywheel Probs (pics)
Hey Org
So heres the problem,
Im just getting close to done with a 5 speed swap, all good so far. I opted to get a Fidanza flywheel with high hopes. I went to put it in and ran into the first problem, the center bore of the flywheel was about 5/100's of and inch to small, and had to almost be pressed onto the crankshaft. I did get it bolted on and tourqued to spec but stupidly realized that I had neglected to swap over the timing (CPS) ring to the flywheel.
Once I got the flywheel off I noticed that there was no way the timing ring couldbe mounted on the back. the tapped holes were way off. After looking at it, I wonder if I got a 3.5 Flywheel. heres some pics.
All help is greatly appreciated, need any more info let me know.

So have you or have you not yet called Fidanza?
IIRC the VQ35 timing rings are welded onto the stock flywheels, and all aftermarket flywheels all come with them already in place.

I stumbled across multiple threads here stating that the auto and manual timing rings are Identical, just they are rivited on the flex plate and bolted to the mt flywheel.
Is this possibly incorrect? What Im using is my auto timing ring that I drilled out

The rings are completely different with respect to how they're mounted.
I'll get a pic up in a minute.
Should've mentioned that in the beginning, really.
The flywheel timing ring base goes from the step up from the center, to the step up by the ring gear.
As you can see, the timing ring on the flexplate has much less material than the flywheel timing ring.
So essentially your problem is you're trying to hack something up instead of using the correct part. When you get said correct part, it should bolt right up.
