i need to know if i need to get a new trunk latch mechanism or not.
right now, i can't move that black knub from the trunk lid latch at all.
i'm guessing that it suppose to move, thus unlock the trunk but it doesn't.
can someone check and see if theirs move just by using your hands and tell me?
if it does, i guess i need a new latch

Yes, you should be able to move the black nub to the right (towards the center of the latch mechanism). Ah, nevermind about the manual release, I see how it works now.
Granted, I didn't test it under load (with the trunk actually closed), but I did latch it manually and the nub releases it every time.
Have you tried forcing it towards the center with a pair of pliers?

and whenever i push the release button, all it does is it moves the bottom latch thing over towards that black knub but doesn't unlock b/c the knub won't move.
oh pmohr, i went to the dealer today about that injector harness pigtail...yeh it wasn't the right one. wasn't even oem. it was some kinda bosch universal ignition pigtail but the plug wouldn't even fit onto the injector.
it really doesn't matter if its latched or not. there both independent mechanisms, its just that 1 depends upon the other...thats my guess, but i'm pretty sure. i think i do need a new latch
Does it matter if its a cable controled one or not?? I have one on my 97 i could sell you for cheap. It would take me a little bit to get it off my parts car(30 miles away from where i live)
It's possible the dealer parts department has a book on it, or a different software package that concerns it or something. Have you tried calling Dave B? I was going to see if I couldn't get an A33 IACV harness pigtail from him, haven't gotten around to it yet.
At the least, you could get one of the repair connectors from the dealer, along with some wire with the correct pins already on it. They've got a box of connectors/wiring, standard Nissan kit.
The diagrams in the FSM look identical, and I don't see anything specifically requiring or excluding the C&C package in FAST, so I'd have to say they're all the same.
I wasnt sure if they would be diffrent or not. do you think you need the whole latch or just the top?
I guess all you can really do then is remove that latch assembly from the trunk (temporarily just bungee cord the trunk lid in place) and get a new one.
Ah, figures. I know they have the earlier style VG injector pigtails available (though that's a given). I imagine you can get a pigtail for just about anything, it just takes the right person to know where to look. I know for a fact that there's a bunch of wiring replacement stuff listed in section 240 (wiring), but you can only pull it up if you know the part code/number, it doesn't actually list anything.

as for the pigtail, i just pmed maxima joe and someone else whos partin his car
i would need the whole latch system (from the trunk lid and bottom hook part), unless i pretty much cut through the locking mechanism w/ a dremel or something to release the hook...
well thats the thing. as you can in the pic, thats in the locked position, hence the bottom hook being locked in. so i should be able to move that knub right? but i can't. tried by force and the release button.
