Do i buy window regulator or motor????(FIXED)
Hey guys!!!! just what the thread title says. ok i searched on this topic and came up with a lot of good stuff but not many pics. so my question is which one of the two do i buy here is a pic of what ever this is(dont know if its the regulator or motor) but as you can see the rubber sprocket or whatever you want to call it is broken, only the middle or outer(dont remember) part spins when i push the window switch up or down. and window jus falls into the door if not held. thanks in advance for the help.

Thanx for the reply!!! yeah i know its pretty cheap for the whole thing but i live in a pretty bad place where they steal from cars all the time and only thing autozone and other car parts stores have is either motor or regulator. and i know i know if they wanted to break into my car they would no matter what but at least i wont make it easy for them.

If the motor works - noise when you hit the switch is usually a good clue it's working, then I'd guess it's the regulator. The regulator is a 'prone to go bad' part, the motor is not really. I've replaced several regulators on cars, only one motor. The job of the regulator is to hold the window in what ever position you tell it to. If the motor is not making nosie, the window would move (with help) up and down, but would likely not stay in place. Easy way to tell is by looking and listening when you hit the switch. You'll have to remove the door pannel and see if the regulator is moving at all with the switch.

Ok first of all thanks to those who replied!!!! Ok so as you can see in tha picture that i first posted up you can see the rubber sprocket torn in the middle and since i hadnt taken the whole motor regulator assembly out i didnt know if it was tha regulator or motor and since im always workin didnt have time to take it off till sunday. thats why i had asked if anyone knew what that part was. well sunday came and i got to taking it out to see what it was and turned out to be the motor. So i went to Autozone and got one from there(43.67 tax included). I know some people are going to say the i could have gotten the whole regulator/motor assembly cheaper from ebay or somewhere online but i didnt have a week or more to wait on the part since where i live if you leave your car unlocked someone going to get in it so just imagine with my window down all the time or taped up to the door. i would jus be inviting somebody to come take a look inside my car so it was something that had to be done. but anyways here are some pics of the parts that came out. this was on of the easiest things ive done on my max and was done in 20 min. only tools need are those to take off the door panel and a rachet and small extension with a 10mm. i would also like to add that when you are tightening the regulator or motor not to overtighten the bolts cause they dont take much to strip(and no i didnt strip mine but they jus feel real soft like they are easy to strip). any questions about changing motor/regulator jus pm me ill be glad to help!!!!
heres tha first pic
heres the old and new motor(one thing i would like to add is that with the new motor my auto down feature doesnt work so if anyone has an idea as to what it would be please let me know)
here the motors and regulator
the new motor is a lil smaller but is nice and strong. rolls the window up and down very quickly!!!!
