Popping/Shudder when trans shifts
Ok,
it's a 96 Maxima. It has this problem, that when it shifts, if it hits right, there is a pop, or it will shudder for a second. It's like there is some pop that causes the right frequency to shudder for a little bit, like the whole wheel is loose. Oh yeah, it's the passenger side only.
At first i thought maybe it was the CV Joints, after all, the boots were torn, and had been for about a year or so. So i replaced both the axles, as it seemed necessary and it might solve the problem. Nope, that didn't do it.
So after some more searching, it started to seem like it would be the bearing having an issue. ok, so lets replace it. Follow the motorvate DIY, and man what a PITA this was. How did he pop out his hub with a meer 20 taps. I must have had the bearing from hell. Two hours later the hub is loose from the bearing. And it was way more than 20 taps. Do you know how many times you have to swing a hammer to to get blisters? Well, i didn't count, but about 2 hours worth of doing will work. Anyways, i also replaced the Hub. It wasn't a new hub, but i picked up a steering knuckle from a junk yard, it didn't have any play and rotated fairly well. So now, new bearing is in place, and still does the same thing. So now i'm kind of at a loss. Anyone else have any ideas of what it could be? It's my gf's car, and she just bought something new, so we're looking to sell, but want to make sure it is going to be a good car for the next owner.
Thanks,
matt
