HELP!! Power Steering

I have searched the posts and found several about weather or not it is safe to drive w/out the power steering belt removed (i.e. will I hurt my car). I understand it will be ridiculously difficult to steer at low speed, but I just need to drive it a day or two that way at most.

Back story: Need to replace the belt b/c current one is shredding/shreiking. Can't get to that damn rear pivot bolt and am considering cutting the current belt and cranking the pully to "pull" the new belt on.

Just trying to get an idea of what I am up against if I am unsuccessful.

Safe to drive without the belt removed? You mean...drive normal?

Yes, it's obviously fine.

Or do you mean driving without a belt? Steering will be more difficult, and you'll probably soak your right side frame rail with PS fluid (depending on reservoir level) but it shouldn't hurt anything, no.

no fluid from the p/s reservoir would come out period if all he is doing is removing the belt..It'll just be hella hard to steer around corners..

Ever pushed a car around without the engine running? Generally speaking, most cars will puke out some PS fluid from the reservoir if you steer them around without the PS system being active.

And it's not that hard to steer once you're moving, it's just low speed that would suck.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. The good (great) news is that I didn't have to worry about it. I cut the old belt and turned the pulley to "pull" the new belt on. Nice and quiet and working great. Too bad I had to do it the "wrong" way, but the tensioner screw was going to either:

a. Break

b. Not Move

Again, thanks for the replies!
