My Max has some trouble starting.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but my car has trouble starting sometimes at random. Yesterday I was at Walmart and I put the key in it and it tried to start then it made a sound like a DJ slowing down a song all of a sudden and then going back to normal, it did that 3 times before the car started (probably not the best analogy but its the best I can come up with), and normally the car doesn't start up right away like its supposed to, it cranks for about 4.5 seconds before the engine actually starts. So what do you guys think? Alternator or starter motor, maybe both?

I'm not the brightest when it comes to cars... But why not the battery?

You can have your alternator and battery checked out at autozone for free anyways or do it yourself if you have a voltmeter.

Simple reason? I like to over complicate things but thanks, I'll go ahead and get those checked out.

I also have a small problem with starting my car, but I think it is just electrical.

Almost everytime I go to start it it does nothing. I have to release the clutch and depress it again and turn the key hard all the way to "start"
and it's a little rough starting.

It's no big deal, just kind of annoying... but does anyone have an idea what it could be?

If you jiggle the key around a little, does it help at all?

Have you tried bypassing the clutch switch to rule that out?

Could be a bad starter, bad ground to the trans, bad connection, etc.

Did you do anything, have anything done, or did anything happen to the car prior to this occurring?

Yes actually it seems to help a little, but not on the first try.

I hadn't thought of bypassing anything. How would you go about doing it?

Unplug it and stick a paperclip in the two pins of the harness connector.

Ahh thanks. And will this allow me to start the car without depressing the clutch?

Correct.

If you plan to make the mod permanent, I've always taken back some of the sheathing on the clutch switch harness, stripped some insulation from both wires, twisted them together, taped it all up, put the sheath back on, and plug it back in. Looks factory, disables the switch.

Interesting, that thought would have never crossed my mind.
I will surely give it a try.

Thanks!
