first tick tick tick, then white blue smoke

hi everyone,
i have a 96 max with about 98k miles, around 80k miles i used to hear this annoying ticking noise, and it get faster when i hit the gas, i thought it was the belt, but its not, ....and not like everyother day on a cold start, i get a puff of white- blue smoke. , there is no oil cunsumption, could the enige be dying? or is there a leak with the valve or something like that?,..i also used 5w30, would 10w30 help?

could the clicking be the engine knocking? not sure about the smoke

Valve seals could be worn and leaking. If it's bluish, then there is oil consumption, just probably not enough to notice.

i will get that, but the car drives great, some mechanics just tell me drive it into the ground

swap engine. i got quotes from 700-2300....some mechanics are saying its the lifters

The VQ doesn't have lifters.

Cost really does depend on who you take it to, what they charge you hourly, how many hours they charge, taxes, disposal fees, shop supplies, etc.

Personally, I'd just spend the $200 on tools and do it myself

+1 on the tools, but i just need to know the problem, then i can go research on fixing the problem..i just read on nycmax that we don't have lifters, thanks,
i narrowed it to
1)ivac
2)pulley
3)belt
4) engine (i have a strong feeling this is where the problems is)

change your plugs at all? before my plug blew out of the cylinder and blew a coil into peices, my engine was making an annoying ticking sounds, replaced that plug and coil, and car doesn't tick anymore

just a thought, give it a shot
