Do you have this information somewhere else? I have to fix cluster problem in my '99 maxima, where gauges sometime works when pressing or tapping on clear plastic. Thanks.

OK... I followed the video and was able to move cluster. I did not disconnect it, I was able to tighten (quarter turn) the 4-tachometer screws, although they did not seem loose. While I was looking on back of cluster, I saw few more screws, which I tighten (quarter turn) lightly.

Cluster worked for two more days and started the ON/OFF behavior. Anyone think I should disconnect the wire and then reconnect from back of the cluster? Or I need to tighten further? Or new cluster?

I don't know how you got so much flex in your bezel, mine cracked right in half and I even took the upper column cover off. How did you position the bottom to clear the column, and still be able to walk the top out with enough room for the stand offs on top?

Ok figured it out, you should add this to the very first post ...

Lower you steering wheel to the lowest position first.

Might seem like common sense, but some people out there, myself included have never had an adjustable steering wheel and won't even think to make sure it is set low.

This summer, the cluster finally gave up!! Temperature sensitive, Off when outside temperature is in 70+, but works in winter. I replaced the entire cluster (Excellent picture and video, thanks pmohr).

New Odometer reading is way higher than my original. It reads 375+k v/s 99k. Is there any way to reprogram the Odometer (legally) and any idea about the cost?

 

The only way to program the 98-99 is thru a dealer, nothing you can DIY I don't think. Not sure of the cost but probably not worth it.

 

The mileage for the odometer is stored in a 8 pin dip IC, type 93C56EN. If you know how to solder, you can swap them.

edit:

The above is true on the 98 and 99 models with the digital odometer. 97s and older use the mechanical wheels, so this would not apply.

 

Sorry for posting in a dormant thread, but I just HAD to make a comment.

I was removing the gauge cluster trim this morning and was over confident with my skills and didn't bother checking the how-tos. So I took everything apart, lowered the steering wheel and could not figure out how to get the damn thing out. I was thinking about removing the steering wheel for a while and almost desperate enough to use lube, but lubrication is for sissys. So I tried squeezing it out the left side, then the right side and after like 30 minutes, SNAP.

I need a new gauge cluster trim now sad times, sad times. Wish i didnt wait to search until after breaking the thing though. I feel really dumb, can someone come to Washington and slap me? thanks, and God bless pmohr lol
