try lucas power steering treatment w/stop leak. i'm holding on for 2 yrs now. i originally
pulled out/drained enough fluid to add the lucas, then did it again 6mos later. a little
stiff on very cold mornings. it loosens up with a few back & forth turns as it warms up.
i really don't wanna pull the rack unless i really have to. hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip. I try to stay away from stop leak products, and this time, I'd like to cure the problem. I just wanted to verify it really was a leak and not something I overlooked. I looked into the dust boot because the outter end tore off and I could see a small puddle inside.

Where was yours leaking?

Thanks!!

Well you can drive with a leaking rack for a long time. Stop leaks will work in this case, so don't discount that option for the meantime.

Yes you should have the rack replaced to truly fix the problem. Make sure the PS lines are flushed in that process so that any metal flakes in the fluid are taken out, or else it will destroy the replacement too.

mine leaked from the same spot as your picture & from the end of the rack (inside the boots). of course, the rack is in need of repair or replacement. but........anyway the lucas works for me.

mine is much worse that that and I use MaxLife ATF for the steering and now I don't notice any change of level at all. During the cold months is when you will lose more because the seals shrink from the cold. I lost all of the fluid twice last winter.
