Brake noises
Brake noises
Hey everyone. My mother recently started having problems with her 1998 I30. Here is the deal. On and off she will be driving without a problem. Breakling goes fine no noise or anything. Then intermitanly at some stops you will heard a rough noise. It is a growling sort of noise that comes from the brakes. You can hear it very noticeably and sounds more like a GRRRR then anything (I know but explaining noises is tough).
Here is what I think she has had done so far. She took it into a shop once where they replaced pads and I believe turned rotors. Then it kept happening and brought it back. She was told they found nothing. So thats where we are at now. I was looking to see if anyone here had any ideas? Mine would be to replace the pads with another type to see if it keeps happening or somethign like that. Anyone else? Any other tests to try? It is a little difficult since it is not at everystop but at this point whatever works.

Is it possible one of the calipers is sticking? Maybe the torque member slides weren't cleaned and relubed. Are the rotors wearing evenly w/ no gouges? Does the noise go away - if you drive, and tap the brake and get the noise but keep driving does it eventually go away? Mine made an intermitent noise and I found the brake dust shield was slightly bent. I bent it back to what looked to be normal and I no longer have the noise. Hope any of this helped. Good luck.
