BOSe head unit
The BOSE systems puts out the full range of sound. I tested it with my Chesky test CD. I didn't pay much attention to the hi frequency limit, but in the lo's, the system went all the way down to 30 Hz, and it was all loud and usable down to about 35 Hz, the lower frequencies you can hear but not feel too much. Of course, being 6.5" speakers, they can only go so loud without reaching their limits of excursion.
In your subject heading you place alot of emphasis on the bose head unit. You have to keep in mind that Bose systems have the amplification done at the speaker, and the front set of speakers have a differnet EQ from the back set.
As for your 18Hz issue, I don't know why you'd want to go that lo unless its for a road show or something. That kind of bass is so deep (and no music is there anyhow) that it'll probably just blend in with the road noise. You won't hear it unless your parked in your garage with the engine off. What I would recommend you do is fit your subwoofer to strengthen the bottom end that you can use in the car, take some of the load off of the 6.5" speakers. That'll make your system way better, louder and more efficient. So setup your sub to push out some strong signal at 25Hz to 35Hz, leave the rest to the 6.5"s
As for how to do it, I haven't done it, but try this link. They sell an interface, and I'm sure you'll hear from others interface kits, that interface with the BOSE system;

Hope this helps

Bose system
the head unit is great its the speakers that give you a problem...Bose only makes them to last for bout 3-5 years depending on how loud you play your music..They hit so hard that they just knock themselves out....Its a great system just that its made to be real intense for a little time
