front end squeal
front end squeal
Noticed after driving for a while at hwy speed I've got a slight squeal from the left front tire. Only noticeable at low speed. Never hear anything until after driving for an extended period.
It's vehicle speed dependent, not rpm.
squeals whether braking or not.
Brakes are fresh - done just before I bought the car about 4 months ago.
Is this likely just the cheapo brake pads/rotors the previous owner used squealing after heating up or possibly an early sign of bearing failure.
I'm going on a road trip next week and don't want to be left stranded with a cooked bearing.

Ahhh the famous high pitched left front wheel wine after being on the hwy for a few miles on a warm day. You can hear it at lower speeds like 25 mph or so. Had that for over 2 years until I figured it out.
When I took my drive shafts out to reboot them I noticed the driver side inner hub seal was very dry and had left a very shinny well polished area on the drive shaft ring. I scuffed up the polished spot slightly and agressively lubbed the inner hub seal area.
Noise has been gone for 2-1/2 years now.
You can probably take the axle nut off, slide the drive shaft out slightly and get some white lithum grease sprayed back in there. Best way to do it is to R&R the drive shaft.

Great info - thanks. I can live with the noise for now. I can only hear it at low speed with the window down. My main concern was breaking down in the middle of nowhere on my upcoming roadtrip.
