I just noticed today that my transmission mount's polly filling has been breaking off and falling out of the mount. I dont know how long it's been like this but I was wondering if there are any negative effects this can have on the motor/driveability. The transmission is sagging slighty and its enough to notice that the motor itself is sitting slanted.

 

So replace the mount.

I cant imagine it being good for the cv axles.

 

the trans mount itself can't make the motor tilt. It has 3 other mounts to hold it in place. Either way , which way is it slanting? Left to right or front to back?

 

Left to right. The transmission side is lower than the timing chain side. I had the crossmember mounts replaced with ES ones at about the same time as the tranny mount, but I dont see how I could mess this up as it's pretty straight forward.

 

i would replace the mount. id also check the motor and see if its kickin at all to the tranny side. if its a tranny mount thats going bad, id be careful on fast takeoff's too.

 

It has got to be the tranny mount if it's sagging at the tranny side. I havent removed the mount so I dont know if it's completely bad, but I can see the polly crap has broken up and is being squeezed out in chunks. I guess I'm off to the Upick yard on monday for a mount...

 

wow, a member since 2005 and your putting a used mount in??? a trans mount isnt all that expensive and is worth the ease of mind to replace new. cmon dude, seriously now.....

 

i put in a used mount and it works fine.
yeah you can get a new one for $65 but a used one will run you about 10 and they usually dont go bad in "normal" maximas driven by old folkies who drive it like a caddy.

 

Your comment is completely irrelevant to this thread. What does being a member since 2005 have anything to do with me purchasing a used mount that I would inspect and deem in good working condition?

Maybe you want to spend the extra money on new mount for a 10 year old car but I'm going to have plenty of "ease" of mind with a good used mount.....

fawk no, i have a 95 and im kickin in 2 oem mounts, NEW!!! im sure that used mounts are ok for some, but im rockin a 14 y/o car holmes and it doesnt fly with me. thats your power train right there, not sayin its going to fall out, but i want a warranty, but thats me.
