95/96 clear tails vs. 97-99 clear tails

so I know theres the red/clear tails for a 97+ and also there are slightly different clear tails for a 95/96. The red clear tails for a 97+ are nice, but kinda plain IMHO.

these kind they make for a 95/96
http://www.buyautolights.com/1995199...ar-p-9621.html

and here are the 97-99 ones.
http://www.drivenbystyle.com/9799-ni...r-p-55701.html

obviously there is a cosmetic difference, the 95/96 ones look much better imo. Is there a way to make the 97-99 clear tails look like the 95/96 ones, cuz I cant seem to find them like these ANYWHERE. anyone know? thanks.

Dude those 95-96 red clears don't look too good and from what I've heard, don't have good fitment.

They're called "diamond cut" or something and look out of place on most all Maximas.

well I know that the inners from a 95/96 wont fit a 97+, but I was just wondering if there was any kind of diamond cut type like these for a 97+, cuz I love the way it looks my boy has em on his 96 with some SMD / LED bulbs and I think it looks really good...

I've never seen a diamond cut 97+ red/clear tail light. I don't think they exist.

You could always just take the reflectors out, it would be different.

The only reason those 95-96 red/clears were made is because the amber is built in to the OEM tails (I think that is well established on this forum). Quite a number of years ago APC made all clears. If you were able to get your hands on them then you could open them up and paint the inside. There was a member who did this and his name was David L. That's why you see DavidL red/clears. The APC all clears weren't DOT approved and they had to stop production and that's why the DavidL red/clears were fetching upwards of $250. Since the 97-99 taillights simply had an insert, there was never a need to make diamond cut red/clear taillights like there was for the 95-96.

They look great and line right up. Not sure what he been smoking.

They look out of place only if you have dull paint on your car. You dont want your tails to out shine your car.

you can fit the inner AND outer clears for a 95/96 on a 97+ and it will fit ok??

No, the inners from the 95/96 won't fit on a 97-99 trunk lid.

The davidL tails are different from the diamond cut ones in your link - davidL tails look more like 97/99 red/clears, with the translucent pillowed lenses.

There were some fitment issues at the beginning.

I agree. Then the chrome upper section wouldn't stand out so much. Then I may consider getting them for my car.

13-14 year old cars are going to have dull paint. Getting "diamond red clears" is going to make them stand out. All my opinion of course, but there aren't that many people that I've seen using them. Most people if they really want to upgrade do the 97+ conversion.

The fitment on the 97-99 Red/Smoke is top notch. No gaps, they seem just as good as OEM.

for the 95/96 look you need tyhe 95/96 trunk, tails and harness

for the 97/99 look you need the 97-99 trunk, tails, and harness without all those necessary components you will not be 100% complete

i say 97-99 all the way,
the 95-96 look like crap. the "diamond cut" makes the lights look cheap and ricey IMO...

This is my KH3 96 GLE maxi with a 97-99 front/rear bumper conversion with the 96 trunk untouched for the simple reason that in my opinion, these lights look best on a maxima.
